DraftKings MLB: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Tyler Anderson, COL vs. LAD ($5,500): Anderson has a home (Coors Field, of course) ERA of 3.45 while backing it up with a 3.31 xFIP and 22.6 percent K rate. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have just two players with an above-average wRC+ (100) against lefties this season. They have been better offensively of late, recording a 113 wRC+ over the past 30 days, and while it's hard to ever recommend a pitcher at Coors Field as a cash game play, Anderson is a potential value play in tournaments.

Johnny Cueto, SF vs. ARI ($11,200): For many, it'll come between either paying up for Max Scherzer or saving $2,400 on Cueto (or even $2,100 for Cole Hamels). Cueto doesn't have Scherzer's strikeout upside, but he does have a home matchup against the Diamondbacks, who rank 22nd in wRC+ over the past 30 days. At home this season, Cueto has a 2.63 ERA while averaging over 7.4 innings per start.

CATCHER

Carlos Ruiz, LAD at COL ($3,400): Recommending a bat against a pitcher also recommended is something I try to avoid, but Ruiz is a new acquisition by the Dodgers and warrants recognition for his 143 wRC+ against southpaws this season.

FIRST BASE

Joey Votto, CIN at LAA ($5,100): Votto's second half of the season has been absurd, as he has a sensational 214 wRC+. The next best batter, with at least 150 plate appearances, is Jose Altuve with a 182. On the mound for the Angels is Jered Weaver, who's allowed a 6.10 xFIP and 2.02 HR/9 to lefties this season.

SECOND BASE

Ian Kinsler, DET vs. CHW ($3,900): Kinsler may be more appreciated for his lefty crushing abilities, but he still has an above-average 105 wRC+ against righties, while also stealing 11 bases against them. He'll now face Anthony Ranaudo, who has a 9.61 ERA and 6.71 xFIP in 19.2 innings this season.

THIRD BASE

Yangervis Solarte, SD at ATL ($2,900):Julio Teheran of the Braves has among the most severe L/R splits out there, holding righties to just a 3.06 xFIP while lefties stroke him for a 5.51 xFIP and 1.38 HR/9. Meanwhile, Solarte has a 132 wRC+ away versus right-handed pitchers this season.

SHORTSTOP

Zack Cozart, CIN at LAA ($3,700): Opposing starter Jered Weaver has allowed a 6.28 xFIP and 2.70 HR/9 this month. Cozart missed some time in the middle of the month, but he's been in the two-hole since returning. He has perfectly serviceable numbers against righties, posting a 100 wRC+ on the season.

OUTFIELD

Kole Calhoun, LAA vs. CIN ($3,200): Given his leadoff spot in the order, his above-average hitting numbers (114 wRC+) and the opposing pitching staff (Reds starter Tim Adleman has allowed a 6.02 xFIP and 3.38 HR/9 against left-handed batters and the Reds' bullpen isn't much better) it is hard to justify this price. Calhoun isn't Mike Trout, and he shouldn't be priced like Trout, but is he really worth $2,200 less? Given the 9.5-run over/under, maybe you want both, but at the very least get Calhoun in all formats.

J.D. Martinez, DET vs. CHW ($4,700): Since returning from the DL, Martinez has a 197 wRC+. Granted, he also has a .478 BABIP during that time. Anthony Ranauado looks a prime target to pick on, and given both Martinez and Cameron Maybin are priced the same, I'd much prefer Martinez's power over Maybin's potential stolen bases, especially after Maybin left Monday's game with a thumb injury.

Alex Dickerson, SD at ATL ($3,200): In a similar strain to Solarte, Dickerson will look to take advantage of Teheran's poor split against left-handed bats. Despite just a .265 BABIP, Dickerson has a 113 wRC+ and .229 ISO against right-handed pitching this season.
