DraftKings MLB: Tuesday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Vince Velasquez, PHI vs. MIA ($9,300): While the young righty has been rocked around to start 2017, and his command has hurt him, Velasquez has still fanned 19 batters over 15 innings for a 27.5 strikeout percentage. The Marlins are a middle-of-the-road offense with a 22.4 strikeout percentage against right-handed hurlers, so if Velasquez puts it all together, he boasts contest-winning upside. However, he's also far from a risk-free start.

Michael Wacha, STL vs. TOR ($6,800): This salary doesn't account for Wacha's bounce-back start to the season. He's sporting a 2.41 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 23.3 strikeout percentage and grabs an excellent matchup. Toronto owns a .274 wOBA and 24.1 strikeout percentage against righties, and for what it's worth, the Blue Jays also lost two hours to travel after playing in Los Angeles on Monday.

CATCHER

Yasmani Grandal, LAD at SFG ($3,100): Opposing lefty Ty Blach has only made two starts in the majors, and the wind is projected to be howling out at AT&T Park. Grandal posted a .385 on-base percentage and .347 wOBA against southpaws last season.

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI vs. SD ($5,000): Following a day off Monday, turn to Goldschmidt with confidence against Clayton Richard. The soft-tossing southpaw has surrendered a 36.4 HR/FB rate and .500 slugging percentage to right-handed hitters this season, and Goldschmidt owns a .1.033 OPS and .434 wOBA against lefties dating back to the 2015 campaign.

SECOND BASE

Robinson Cano, SEA at DET ($4,200): Left-handed hitters have squared up Jordan Zimmerman for a 51.4 hard-hit percentage to start 2017. It's a small sample, but it's also extreme. Cano sports a .948 OPS, .265 ISO and .394 wOBA against right-handed hurlers dating back to last season, so this is a soft salary compared to his upside.

THIRD BASE

Travis Shaw, MIL vs. CIN ($3,600): After allowing a .377 wOBA to left-handed hitters last season, Feldman is an arm to target. Shaw has settled in with the Brewers and has 10 runs, 14 extra-base hits and 18 RBI through 19 games. Milwaukee sports the fifth-best wOBA (.328) and have scored the sixth-most runs (91) in baseball, so being locked into the heart of the lineup is a clear boost for Shaw.

SHORTSTOP

Addison Russell, CHC at PIT ($3,400): While Russell sports an underwhelming .306 wOBA against right-handed hurlers dating back to last season, his 9.1 DraftKings fantasy points per game is a top mark among shortstops. His current 15-game heater goes to the tune of 13 runs, seven extra-base hits and 12 RBI with a .925 OPS. This salary doesn't match the high-floor, high-ceiling profile he offers.

OUTFIELD

Max Kepler, MIN at TEX ($4,200): Dating back to 2015, Andrew Cashner has surrendered a .374 wOBA and 37.5 hard-hit percentage to left-handed hitters, which sets up as a cushy matchup for Kepler. He's been batting in the top half of the order against right-handed starters and is off to a huge start against them with a .407 wOBA through 53 plate appearances this season.

Yasmany Tomas, ARI vs. SD ($4,000): There is plenty of value in this price with Tomas boasting a 1.045 OPS, .305 ISO and .434 wOBA against southpaws dating back to last years. He's also a nice stack option with Paul Goldschmidt and helps mitigate the first baseman's hefty salary, and especially against Clayton Richard (1.89 HR/9 allowed to righties this season).

Yasiel Puig, LAD at SFG ($3,400): Through his first three seasons in the league, Puig posted a .379 wOBA against lefties, so the potential is there despite a .298 mark since. He fits nicely with Grandal in a low-price stack against an inexperienced hurler in favorable hitting conditions.
