FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Madison Bumgarner, SF vs LAD ($10,700): After the Cardinals were gifted a win, the Giants pulled out a win last night to maintain an edge for the second National League wildcard. Safe enough to call this must-win status, a circumstance Bumgarner has performed quite well in. At home this season, he has a 2.04 ERA and 27.9 percent K rate, and he rung up 10 batters in seven innings of scoreless ball against the Dodgers just 11 days ago. While not technically a postseason game, in terms of importance we can treat it as if it were, and in 88.1 innings of postseason pitching, Bumgarner has a 2.14 ERA.

CATCHER

Nick Hundley, COL vs. MIL ($3,300): Hundley's .383 wOBA against lefties this season may be written off as an aberration, but a solid 122 wRC+ over the same split indicates some real lefty mashing upside. Standing in for the Brewers is southpaw Brent Suter, who at 27 years old, will be making his second MLB start. In his one other start, Suter gave up four runs, including two home runs, in just 4.1 innings. If that's as far as he got on the friendly confines at Safeco Field, the rookie's contact-heavy style will struggle within the large outfield and thin air at Coors Field.

FIRST BASE

Miguel Cabrera, DET at ATL ($3,900): After getting rained out Thursday, the Tigers come in with everything to play for down 1.5 games for the second American League wildcard. Cabrera (182 wRC+ and .307 ISO this month) will face off against Matt Wisler, who has already pitching a career-high 152 innings this season and has a 4.86 ERA (4.69 xFIP) and 1.36 HR/9 allowed.

SECOND BASE

Robinson Cano, SEA vs. OAK ($3,300): Every game is a must-win for the Mariners if they want a shot at the playoffs, and the A's running rookie pitcher Raul Alcantara puts Cano and company in a good position to do so. In 20.1 innings, Alcantara has a 5.75 ERA (5.28 xFIP) and 2.21 HR/9 allowed. Cano is rounding out his best power season of his career, with 36 home runs and a 135 wRC+.

THIRD BASE

Yangervis Solarte, SDP at ARI ($2,600): The Padres face off against D-Backs rookie Braden Shipley, who has a 5.26 ERA and 1.80 HR/9 allowed this season. Pitching in the hitter-friendly confines in Arizona only exacerbates the situation. Maybe it was the 10 days he missed in the middle of the month, but this price is ludicrous. Solarte has been a plus hitter on the season with a 121 wRC+, but in the five games since his return his wRC+ is 181.

SHORTSTOP

Asdrubal Cabrera, NYM at PHI ($3,400): In 50.2 innings over the past two seasons, the Phillies' Alec Asher has a 6.04 ERA (5.51 xFIP) and 1.42 HR/9 allowed. The later the season has gotten, the better Cabrera has been, as he has a 173 wRC+ with six home runs and three stolen bases this month.

OUTFIELD

Hunter Renfroe, SDP at ARI ($2,200): This kid packs SERIOUS power. Renfroe has homered on four of his last 18 plate appearances, getting a hit in seven of 18 (.389 batting). Before the late-season call up, the 2013 first-round pick had already hit 30 homers at Triple-A ,and he had at least 20 in his two seasons prior to that. He now faces Brandon Shipley in a park made for more production.

Carlos Gomez, TEX vs. TB ($3,000): Since moving to the Rangers just over a month ago, Gomez has recaptured shades of the potential he once showcased. Since his debut, Gomez has eight home runs, a 147 wRC+ and five stolen bases. Matt Andriese is a decent pitcher, but a short leash with the offseason around the corner and the hitter-friendly stadium in Texas should give Gomez more than enough opportunity to succeed. Vegas currently has this game with a nin-run over/under and the Rangers a heavy -210 ML favorites.

Curtis Granderson, NYM vs. PHI ($3,700): Leading off and being notable for his stolen bases, it's easy to forget Granderson has two 40+ home runs seasons in the books. He's at 30 now this season, including eight this month and a 167 wRC+. The right-handed Alex Asher and his 6.04 career MLB ERA should fit Granderson's lefty bat just fine.
