Mey has a big-time fastball and impressed in the Arizona Fall League in 2024, where he did not allow a run while striking out eight and saving six games in 8.2 innings for Glendale. The Reds decided to add him to the 40-man roster rather than risk him being poached in the Rule 5 draft. Mey has really struggled with his control at every stop besides his small AFL sample (16.4 percent walk rate at Double-A, 18.8 percent walk rate at High-A last year), so he probably won't be ready for high-leverage work in the big leagues in 2025. However, if Mey keeps making strides with his control, he could emerge as one of the Reds' better relievers by the end of the year. Read Past Outlooks
