Hurtubise, an undrafted free agent out of the United States Military Academy (West Point), was added to the 40-man roster during the offseason after slashing .330/.479/.483 in stops at Double-A Chattanooga (159 +wRC) and Triple-A Louisville (172). He doesn't carry a prospect's pedigree, and an inflated BABIP should come back to earth, but the Army grad showed superlative plate discipline (16.9 BB%, 13.8 K%) and on-base ability to capitalize on his speed (45 steals). There's a crowd in the Reds' outfield, where the team would like to have a right-handed bat, so it's likely the lefty-batting Hurtubise opens at Louisville with a chance to reach the majors in 2024.
