Looking good with new slurve
Oller has impressed early on in Athletics camp after working on a new breaking ball at Dynamic Sports Training in Houston over the offseason, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Oller describes his new breaking ball as more of a slider-curveball hybrid, or a slurve. Not only is his new pitch looking sharp, Oller is also showing improved command after uncharacteristically struggling in that area last season. "This is probably the best Adam has thrown the ball," manager Mark Kotsay said on Wednesday. "He looked really good. He looked confident. He threw strikes. From a naked-eye standpoint, his delivery looks like it's cleaned up. He's going north and south a lot more and a lot better." Oller is competing for a spot in the A's rotation after holding a 6.30 ERA and 46:39 K:BB over 74.1 innings in 2022.
