Brett Wisely

25-Year-Old Second Baseman2B
San Francisco Giants
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Wisely got some run at second base and in center field for the Giants last season as the team dealt with injuries and ineffectiveness at those spots. He did very little with the opportunities, putting up a lowly .497 OPS with a surprisingly-high 30.5 percent strikeout rate. The 24-year-old got on base at a .417 clip during his time at Triple-A Sacramento, and high walk rates have been a theme for him in the minors. Wisely had just a 6.9 percent walk rate with the big club, though, and he swung and missed way too much for a guy with an average exit velocity of just 85.9 mph. He'll compete for a utility job in 2024, but there doesn't look to be much of a path to regular at-bats. Read Past Outlooks
$Signed a one-year contract with the Giants in March of 2024.
Starting at shortstop
2BSan Francisco Giants
September 15, 2024
Wisely will start at shortstop for Sunday's game against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Wisely often sits against southpaws like the Padres' (Martin Perez), but Wisely will stick in the lineup at shortstop while Tyler Fitzgerald (back) takes a seat due to injury. Donovan Walton will fill Wisely's usual spot at the keystone.

How does Brett Wisely compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. * Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Will focus on mental game in minors
2BSan Francisco Giants
June 7, 2023
According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Wisely will put an emphasis on improving his focus and mental game in the minors after being optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old committed five errors over the past two weeks, and it wasn't much of a surprise he was demoted when Joc Pederson and Thairo Estrada returned from the injured list Tuesday. Wisely has a .547 OPS in 88 plate appearances this year but received strong praise from manager Gabe Kapler, who said the utility player "has a chance to be a really good big leaguer for a long time." It's likely only a matter of time before Wisely receives another chance with the Giants.
