The Athletics declined Rucinski's (back) $5 million team option for 2024 on Friday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 reports.
ANALYSIS
Rucinski underwent lumbar spine surgery in August and is expected to miss part of the 2024 campaign, although a specific timeline for his return isn't clear. Given his 9.00 ERA and 6:14 K:BB over 18 innings in 2023, along with ample time missed with knee issues, Rucinski's option probably wasn't going to be exercised even if he had been healthy.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2015
Rucinski has posted ERAs between 2.97 and 3.17 for four consecutive years. The catch, of course, is that he posted those ERAs in the KBO, leading the way for an NC Dinos team that took home the Korean Series in 2020. Rucinski's MLB resume sadly isn't nearly as glowing. In 41 appearances, just one of which came as a starter, the righty struggled to a 5.33 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 17.9 K%. He improved his strikeouts each season in Korea, topping out at 24.3% last year, a mark he paired with an excellent 4.3 BB%. The reasons not to like Rucinski are easy to find - MLB is a big step up from the KBO, and he's now 34 years old - but as long as he remains virtually free, you could do worse than a pitcher coming off a strong season who could start every five days at a great pitcher's park. Chris Flexen, for example, returned from a successful stint in Seoul to produce a 3.66 ERA in a similar park in Seattle over the last two years.
A starter by trade, Rucinski made three relief appearances for the Angels last season during two separate callups. Prior to that, the 26-year-old had a strong showing in his first season at Double-A Arkansas, notching a 3.15 ERA with 140 strikeouts and 41 walks in 148.2 innings. Rucinski has impressed general manager Jerry Dipoto with how quickly he has moved through the ranks in the organization after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2011, and his experience as a starter could get him on the fast track to a position in the majors. The No. 5 starter spot in the Angels' rotation will likely be up for grabs in spring training with Tyler Skaggs being out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August. This potential path to playing time could make Rucinski a player to monitor early in 2015, as he has shown the ability to miss bats early in his career.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Club option likely declined
POakland Athletics
November 2, 2023
Rucinski, who is recovering from August lumbar spine surgery, is unlikely to have his $5 million club option exercised by Oakland, per Martin Gallegos of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
There was some positive buzz around Rucinski when the A's signed him out of the Korea Baseball Organization last winter, but he battled multiple injuries in 2023 while struggling to a 9.00 ERA and 2.28 WHIP in just four major-league starts covering 18 innings. The 34-year-old right-hander may have to settle for a minor-league deal this offseason if he wants to remain stateside.
