2024 Fantasy Outlook
Clase led the league in saves for the second straight year, tallying a career-high 44 of the Guardians' 47 total saves, while earning his second consecutive All-Star nomination. His 93.6% team save share led the league once again, as former Guardians manager Terry Francona was very straightforward with his bullpen hierarchy. However, Clase regressed in many categories, all of which new manager Stephen Vogt may consider when determining bullpen roles for 2024. Clase posted career-worst marks with 9 losses and 12 blown saves, the latter leading all relievers. He also posted the worst ratios of his young career, and while his 3.22 ERA and 1.16 WHIP were fine for typical reliever standards, they were not Clase-like. Hitters simply made more contact against him, which inflated his BABIP and saw his strikeout rate plummet to a career-worst 21.2%. Despite these blips, Clase should remain the Guardians closer for 2024 and is likely to be among the top 5 closers taken in drafts. Read Past Outlooks

2020
His breakout 2021 season would be difficult to top, but Clase exceeded his already high expectations, leading the league with 42 saves while earning his first All-Star nomination and AL Reliever of the Month honors three times. Clase led all qualified relievers with a 0.73 WHIP, while also setting career best marks with 72.2 innings, 77 strikeouts, a 28.4% K% and an impressive 3.7% BB% that was among the best in the majors. His 82.4% team save share also led the league, as he had no competition to his role as the Guardians closer and maintained extremely high stability in that role all season. Clase's velocity was down a tick, averaging "only" 99.6 mph on his cutter after the pitch averaged triple digits last year. He still threw 196 pitches 100 mph or greater, but this was far less than the 471 he threw at that speed in 2021. Clase will be the first closer off the board in many 2023 drafts and is likely to be drafted among the top 3 closers at minimum.

Another dominant month
Clase was named the American League Reliever of the Month for July on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander continues to be the most effective reliever in baseball, as he's surrendered just four earned runs through 53 appearances this season. Clase allowed just one earned run across 11 innings in July, though a 4:2 K:BB was a bit underwhelming given his average fastball velocity of 99.4 mph. His 7.7 K/9 this year would be a career worst, but a career-best 1.0 BB/9 has helped offset the reduced strikeouts.
