Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Duran emerged as a force for the Rangers and for fantasy managers in the first three months last season, slashing a robust .320/.361/.557 with 12 home runs over 233 plate appearances. The 24-year-old's over-aggressiveness eventually caught up to him, though, as he bottomed out from July on with a .225/.283/.310 line and just two homers in 59 contests. Duran's last start of the regular season came on Sept. 15 and he didn't play in the playoffs during the Rangers' run to the World Series. The poor finish puts Duran's future playing time in a precarious spot, although working in his favor is his ability to play all over the field. Duran has some loud tools, as his 96th percentile max exit velocity and 91st percentile sprint speed can attest. He's been a free swinger since his minor-league days, though, so it's fair to question whether he'll ever make enough contact for those tools to shine through. Read Past Outlooks
Back on bench Thursday
Duran is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Duran has been picking up starts at a multitude of positions since Corey Seager (hip) landed on the 10-day injured list. Until Thursday, Duran had made five consecutive starts, but he went hitless in the last two games as the designated hitter. Adolis Garcia is in the lineup as the designated hitter Thursday while Josh Smith is starting at shortstop.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2020
Duran is an exciting potential of ingredients who frankly needs more time to bake in the minors. He has the raw tools to be a successful fantasy contributor at some point in his professional career, but 2023 is unlikely to be that time as his impatience at the plate and issues making contact have gotten the better of him at the upper levels of the sport. He would seemingly enter the spring in competition with Josh Jung for the third base job, and could very well earn it if the near year-long layoff for Jung comes into play during March. Duran will likely make the roster in a reserve capacity but the club may also decide regular at bats in Triple-A is better for him. Given the experienced and expensive depth on the roster, a solid spring from Jung almost guarantees a red tag hanging from Duran's locker after a late March game.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
More opportunities at third likely
Josh Jung suffered a fractured right wrist Monday, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, which should result in Duran seeing more playing time at third base.
ANALYSIS
It's literally a tough break for Jung, who also missed time down the stretch last season due to a fractured finger. Every injury creates opportunity though, with Duran and Josh Smith the prime candidates to benefit in Texas. Duran was unable to seize a regular role late last year with Jung sidelined and posted a .493 OPS during the final month of the season. though he's 3-for-7 with a double and a stolen base in his brief action this year.
