Farm Futures: Rookie Outfielder Targets
James Anderson looks at the landscape of rookie outfielders who could provide 2025 fantasy value, including targets like Jasson Dominguez, Heston Kjerstad and Colby Thomas plus avoids like Chandler Simpson!
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Rincones is the son of a former minor-leaguer, but his upbringing actually involved an unusually small amount of baseball for a player who went on to become a third-round draft pick in 2022. Rincones spent much of his childhood in Scotland, where his father worked in the oil industry after an injury cut his playing career short. That gives reason to believe that the younger Rincones, a 6-foot-3 outfielder, could be a late bloomer. He has above-average raw power, but questionable pitch recognition led to a 25.1% strikeout rate across the Single-A and High-A levels in his first professional season. That came with a .248/.315/.427 slash line (good for a 115 wRC+), as well as 15 homers and 32 steals. There's just enough in Rincones' profile that suggests he could one day profile as a power-first corner outfielder, but that will require pitch-recognition improvements that keep his strikeouts in check as he rises through the minors.
