2024 Fantasy Outlook
Crochet missed all of 2022 following Tommy John surgery and was limited to just 25 apperances between the majors and minors last season due to a shoulder injury. When healthy, the lefty walked more batters (13) at the big league level last year than he struck out (12), but the sample was limited to only 12.2 innings. He ended the season healthy, but the Crochet's persistent injury woes have made it difficult for the White Sox to settle on his role. Recent reports indicate his workload will be monitored during spring training and Chicago will determine whether to stretch him out to start in 2024, or use him in relief. Fantasy managers have been willing to gamble on Crochet's upside for a few years now, but he has yet to realize his potential. If health prevails in 2024, Crochet could re-emerge on fantasy radars, but expect a high WHIP no matter what role he fills. Read Past Outlooks
Suffers 12th loss
Crochet (6-12) took the loss Friday, allowing one run on three hits and no walks over four innings against Oakland. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw was saddled with his third straight loss despite this solid 56-pitch performance, as the White Sox continue to limit his workload as the season winds down. Crochet has not reached the fifth inning in 12 straight starts, and his 138 innings in 2024 has already more than doubled his prior career high of 54.1 frames, set back in 2021. Things haven't been pretty over those dozen outings, either. The 25-year-old has gone 0-6 with a 5.89 ERA and 1.53 WHIP across 36.2 innings over that span. He is currently projected to make his next short start against the Angels on the road next week.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
2021
Crochet missed all of 2022 while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. The White Sox hope he'll return by mid-season. Before the surgery, the plan was for Crochet to follow Michael Kopech's example and begin the season as a multi-inning reliever before joining the rotation. The White Sox still envision Crochet as a starter, but there are no plans to work in that capacity in 2023. The hope is he builds up ample innings to make the full transition in the off-season. Still just 23-years-old, there is plenty of time for Crochet to make it as a starter, but with his arsenal, high-leverage relief work is a solid fallback. It's risky to trust Crochet in redraft leagues, but he could be a target to stash in keeper formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Trade push from Dodgers, Phillies
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, both the Dodgers and Phillies made trade offers for Crochet in the final day before the July 30 deadline.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander's demand for a contract extension in order to pitch in the playoffs appeared to depress his trade market leading up to the deadline, but at least two major contenders were still working to acquire him. The White Sox didn't receive an offer they deemed suitable, with both the Phillies and Dodgers looking to retain their upper-echelon prospects, so Crochet ended up staying put. The 25-year-old has struggled a bit in his past three starts with 11 earned runs allowed across 9.1 frames, but he still has a 3.65 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 167:30 K:BB across 120.2 innings during his first season as an MLB starter. Crochet is under team control for the 2025 and 2026 campaigns and has a strong chance of being traded during the offseason.
