2025 Fantasy Outlook
After a breakout 2023 with Tampa Bay and a good start to 2024, Paredes was shipped to the Cubs over the summer prior to the trade deadline. The move returned him to the team that drafted him back in 2015, though he never actually played for Chicago during that previous stint, as he was traded to Detroit as a prospect in 2018. Paredes struggled a bit initially in his debut for the Cubs, and his OPS across 52 games with his new team was just .632, compared to the .792 OPS he posted in 101 games for the Rays. Still just 25 years old, Paredes should be able to get back on track in 2025. He popped 20 home runs and recorded a .739 OPS as a 23-year-old back in 2022, then followed that up with 31 long balls and an .840 OPS a year later. Paredes also tallied an impressive 98 RBI during that 2023 campaign. The young infielder is just a .232 career hitter and may never make huge strides there, but he's already displayed good power potential at the MLB level, and that's where he should be able to once again make his mark in 2025. Headed to Houston
The Astros acquired Paredes, Hayden Wesneski and Cam Smith from the Cubs on Friday in exchange for Kyle Tucker, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Astros reportedly tried to get Paredes at last season's trade deadline, but they've now got their man after his pit stop in Chicago. Paredes slashed a pedestrian .238/.346/.393 with 19 home runs in 2024 between the Rays and Cubs, but his pull-heavy swing is perfect for the Crawford Boxes at his new home park, giving him a good chance to bounce back in the power department in 2025. Currently, Paredes would be in line to play third base for the Astros, at least until he gets pushed by Smith -- the 14th overall pick in the 2024 Draft -- but he could shift over to first base if the club also re-signs Alex Bregman.

Paredes had a wonderful breakout season becoming a full-time threat in the Tampa Bay lineup while playing three of the four infield positions. Paredes has a simple approach in that he is up there to pull baseballs, ideally over the fence since he is not the fleetest of foot. Paredes hit all 31 of his homers to left field, and in fact has hit all 53 of his career major league homers to left field. Not only does he pull a lot of baseballs, he also hits a high volume of flyballs which limits his batting average upside despite that he is both accepting of walks and does not strike out as much as one would imagine. His 98 RBI season appeared with him hitting .295 with runners in scoring position after hitting just .175 in those same situations in 2022. RISP production is not a skill so this could evaporate as quickly as it appeared which means the variability of his potential fantasy value in 2024 is rather wide. 2022 is a reminder of his downside.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might be headed to Houston
The Cubs are close to completing a trade sending Paredes, Hayden Wesneski and Cam Smith to the Astros in exchange for Kyle Tucker, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Astros were reportedly runners-up to the Cubs in trying to trade for Paredes at the deadline and now they're poised to finally get their man. His pull-happy swing is an excellent fit for the Crawford Boxes at the soon-to-be-rebranded Minute Maid Park, giving him a good shot to bounce back from last year's disappointing .739 OPS and 19 home runs.
