PHouston Astros  AAA
December 1, 2023
Solis signed a minor-league contract with the Astros on Friday, Kenny Van Doren of Astros Future reports.
ANALYSIS
Solis returned from a four-year absence in 2023 following two Tommy John surgeries to hold an 8.46 ERA and 50:37 K:BB over 61.2 frames at Triple-A Sugar Land. He'll turn just 24 later this month even with all the missed time and the Astros still want to see how he develops.

2018 Fantasy Outlook
Investing in pitching prospects who are entering their age-18 season is risky business, but Solis' performance as a 17-year-old in rookie ball warrants such a move in deeper dynasty leagues. He signed out of Venezuela for $450,000 in the summer of 2016, and was absolutely dominant last season across stops in the Dominican Summer League, Gulf Coast League and Appalachian League, notching a 2.64 ERA and 69:21 K:BB in 61.1 innings. A projectable 6-foot-3, 190-pound righty, Solis possesses a low-to-mid-90s fastball that easily projects as a double-plus offering, as there is still likely another velocity bump coming. He also features a hammer curveball and shows feel for a developing changeup. He will likely be the youngest pitcher, and perhaps the youngest player in the Midwest League, and has all the tools to be dominant in his first test against full-season hitters. All of the accepted teenage pitching prospect risks apply, but few of his contemporaries can match Solis' top-of-the-rotation upside.
