20-Year-Old ShortstopSS
New York Mets AAA
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Enough undersized hitting prospects have gone on to have massive MLB success in recent years that Williams doesn't face as much skepticism as he may have five or 10 years ago. A 5-foot-6, 175-pound up-the-middle defender with 70-grade speed, Williams has a keen eye and is adept at making pitchers throw him something he can drive. He had 13 home runs and 45 steals on 52 attempts in 121 games as a 19-year-old across Single-A, High-A and Double-A. Williams logged an excellent 35.9 Hard% while showcasing his masterful command of the zone (22.1 K%, 19.5 BB%). His groundball rate was under 35% at both Single-A and High-A, so Williams should be able to get the most of his power potential. He played 92 games at shortstop and 21 games in center field, with second base and left field also being obvious spots he could play as needed. Williams should return to Double-A for the start of his age-20 season. Read Past Outlooks

Bumped up to Triple-A

September 15, 2024
The Mets promoted Williams from Double-A Binghamton to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
With Binghamton's season coming to a close Sunday, Williams will get his first taste of Triple-A during the upcoming week as he looks to pick up more at-bats while a wrist procedure has kept him out for much of the 2024 campaign. The shortstop prospect wrapped up his time at Double-A with a .528 OPS and five extra-base hits (four doubles, one triple) in 101 plate appearances.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
He stands only 5-foot-8, but Williams was the best prep hitter in Texas and one of the best hitters in the nation last season, with scouts bullish on his offensive upside despite his undersized frame. The Mets landed him with the No. 14 overall pick, and he met expectations after signing. Williams has strength where it counts, in his forearms and lower body, and he generates plus bat speed that translates into much more power than one would expect from a teenager his size. He is also a plus runner (6-for-6 on SB attempts in 10 complex games), so Williams checks all of the boxes fantasy managers are looking for if they can get past his stature. Defensively, he will stick somewhere up the middle, most likely at second base if his arm isn't good enough for shortstop.
