2024 Fantasy Outlook
Yates continues to miss plenty of bats with his fastball and splitter, as last year was his fourth straight full season with a 30-plus percent strikeout rate (31.5%). Unfortunately, his control significantly regressed with 37 walks across 60.1 innings for a 14.6% walk percentage that was 5th-worst among qualified relievers. Yates, who turns 37 in March, projects to fill a setup role with the reigning World Series champions after recently signing a 1-year deal with Texas. He's the most experienced reliever on the roster and with 62 career saves, he could eventually work his way into the 9th inning as long as he's not issuing too many free passes. Read Past Outlooks
Fans two for 30th save
Yates picked up the save over the Mariners on Friday, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning while striking out two.
ANALYSIS
Yates entered the contest to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning and needed 11 pitches to get through the first two batters before allowing a single to Victor Robles. The veteran reliever was then able to get Julio Rodriguez to go down swinging for the final out while securing his 30th save of the campaign in the process. Yates has converted each of his last nine save opportunities, including five this month. He's allowed only one hit and one walk through five September appearances, posting a 6:1 K:BB over that stretch.

Yates completed the long road back from Tommy John surgery in making his Braves debut last August but unfortunately made just nine appearances before returning to the injured list with more elbow troubles. The good news is that it seems to have been just a speed bump, with Yates expected to be ready to go in 2023. The veteran right-hander's velocity was back to normal in 2022 and so was the bite on his signature splitter. Yates is behind Raisel Iglesias and probably at least A.J. Minter in the Braves' saves pecking order, but he could still have some deep-league fantasy value if he regains the form which made him one of the best relievers in baseball from 2018-19.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Heading to trade block?
The Rangers could make Yates available ahead of the trade deadline, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander enjoyed a resurgent campaign in Atlanta last season as he tallied five saves and nine holds with a 3.28 ERA in 61 appearances, and he linked up with the Rangers on a one-year, $4.5 million contract for 2024. Yates has pitched well beyond those numbers and has become Texas' lockdown closer with a 0.86 ERA and 43:14 K:BB across 31.1 innings this year. The reigning World Series champions are 7.5 games out of the final AL wild-card spot, so there's no real incentive to hold onto Yates and his expiring contract.
