Triple-A Salt Lake transferred Lugo from its 7-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Thursday while he recovers from an apparent hand injury, Jared Tims of TalkinHalos.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Angels aren't required to shed light on Lugo's injury, but Tims suggests that the outfielder hurt his thumb while trying to make a defensive play in his organizational debut Aug. 2. Lugo, whom the Angels acquired from the Red Sox ahead of the trade deadline, went 2-for-5 with a home run and a double in his lone game for Salt Lake and will now be shut down for the season as a result of moving to the 60-day IL.

Boosting prospect profile
OFBoston Red Sox  AAA
May 29, 2024
Lugo has boosted his prospect stock with 10 homers, nine steals and a .302/.396/.651 slash line through 38 games at Double-A Portland this season, reports Alex Speier of The Boston Globe.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old's outlook was headed in the wrong direction after he posted a .678 OPS and 28 percent strikeout rate at Portland in 2023, but he focused on attacking pitches in the zone during the offseason, and the work has paid off. Lugo could make his way to Triple-A Worcester sooner than later given his current trajectory.
