ANALYSIS
Castillo logged a 4.43 ERA over 20.1 innings at the big-league level with the Royals in 2023, but he didn't make any appearances for the Phillies in 2024 after being added to the organization's 40-man roster over the offseason. The right-hander was outrighted off the roster earlier this month and was eventually cut loose after compiling a 7.62 ERA over 52 innings this season between Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Double-A Reading.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Castillo worked as both a starter and a reliever between the Blue Jays and the Royals last season, as he was included in part of the return for Whit Merrifield. He was better as a Blue Jay, as Castillo ended the year in rough form. Overall, his 5.95 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 37:15 K:BB across 39.1 innings aren't great numbers, but there's room for him to grow. The 23-year-old right-hander will be in contention for a spot in the Kansas City rotation heading into 2023 -- there are a lot of pitchers in that mix, but youth is on his side if he can get back on track. Castillo leans heavily on a 93 mph fastball and also features a changeup and a slider in his three-pitch mix. Realistically, there's a significant chance he opens the season at Triple-A, though his performance in spring training will likely be a key one to watch as the Royals shape their pitching staff under a new manager and pitching coach.
