Michael Siani

Michael Siani

25-Year-Old OutfielderOF
St. Louis Cardinals
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Siani looked to be, at best, fourth in the pecking order in center field for the Cardinals at the outset of spring training, but injuries to Tommy Edman and Dylan Carlson and struggles by Victor Scott led to Siani taking over in center as the primary guy versus righties before the end of April. He proved to be a defensive wizard from the jump, but Siani's work at the plate was rough. Among 286 players with at least 300 plate appearances, Siani's .570 OPS ranked 282nd and his wRC+ of 64 tied for 277th. His 27.5 percent strikeout rate was higher than his 22.6 percent hard-hit rate, which is difficult to pull off. Siani did steal 20 bases in 23 chances and often tallied gaudy stolen-base totals in the minors. The 25-year-old could get another shot at regular reps in center field in 2025, but from a fantasy perspective he would be a desperation speed play. Read Past Outlooks

Out of lineup Thursday
OFSt. Louis Cardinals
September 26, 2024
Siani is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Colorado.
ANALYSIS
Siani will get a day off after he started both of the first two games of the series. Victor Scott will occupy center field and bat ninth for St. Louis as it goes for the sweep.

Stat Review
How does Michael Siani compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
  • BB/K

2019 Fantasy Outlook
It took $2 million to get Siani to rescind his commitment to Virginia, almost four times the recommended slot value of the 109th overall pick in last year's draft. The early returns on the investment were strong for Cincinnati, with Siani handling himself just fine offensively (98 wRC+) in the Appy League. He just needs to be close to average from the left side of the plate in order to make it long term, as his defense in center field and throwing arm are both plus. If he can hit enough to maintain a starting role in the major leagues, Siani should be able to swipe 20-plus bases pretty easily. He's a long ways off at 19 and power is not a big part of this equation, though there's always hope that Great American Ball Park will help in that regard. Either way, Siani has the skills base to be worth rostering in deeper dynasty leagues in 2019.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Misses Gold Glove eligibility
OFSt. Louis Cardinals
September 4, 2024
Siani won't be eligible to win a Gold Glove Award since he didn't meet the eligibility requirements of 698 field innings through 138 team games, per Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat.
ANALYSIS
It's an unfortunate situation for the 25-year-old, who fell just two innings short of the threshold. Siani opened the campaign in a reserve role but took hold of the starting job in center field and has posted plus-eight DRS and plus-14 OAA in 103 games this season. His offensive upside is limited with two homers, a 4.7 percent walk rate and a .616 OPS, but a .253 average and 15 stolen could provide some value in deeper leagues. Siani has flipped his career trajectory in 2024 after he claimed off waivers by the Cardinals late last season.
