2025 Fantasy Outlook
Horwitz was one of the few bright spots on a dissapointing Toronto roster as he came up and more than handled his own in rookie season at the plate. Horwitz earned his promotion with a .335/.456/.514 triple-slash line in 57 games in Triple-A Buffalo where he walked more often than he struck out. He finished the season with the Jays hitting .265/.357/.433 with 12 homers and a willingness to accept walks. Those numbers were mostly put up against righties because he did not hit lefties well. All 16 of his homers came off righties as he hit .310/.416/.522 against them but had just 6 doubles and a .244/.340/.291 line against southpaws. The club also is not sure where they want to play Horwitz defensively as he is not a good defender. He has both first and second base eligibility for fantasy purposes, but Toronto had him DH 17 times as well. The platoon profile and the lack of a defensive home makes it tough to get too excited about any upside because the splits issues and the defensive uncertainty put a hard cap on his playing time that may not exceed 500 plate appearances. Still, he is ideally suited to lead off against righties even if he has yet to attempt a stolen base at the major league level. Read Past Outlooks
Getting night off
Horwitz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Horwitz's streak of 11 consecutive starts will come to an end while he heads to the bench for the first time since Sept. 11. He'll cede his spot in the lineup to Tyler Heineman, who will handle catching duties while top backstop Alejandro Kirk gets a day off behind the plate but sticks in the starting nine as the Blue Jays' designated hitter.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Horwitz has been an accomplished hitter all throughout the Toronto system with a .303/.407/.464 triple-slash line in just over 1,700 plate appearances since 2019. He is the type of hitter that is both accepting of his walks as well as someone very willing to use his contact skills to put the ball in play having never struck out as many as 80 times in a season at a time where many minor leaguers are posting triple-digit strikeout totals. Horwitz's 2024 fantasy value is clouded in two ways. Primarily, he is only eligible at utility on draft day as he had six games at DH and five at first base last season. Secondarily, the Jays roster is rather loaded with talent and Horwitz's best path forward would be playing left field. If he were to get that job, he would still likely hit in the 9th spot of the lineup.

Call-up on horizon?
Keegan Matheson of MLB.com suggested Tuesday the Blue Jays would be more comfortable with Horwitz as a bench piece in September compared fellow prospects Addison Barger and Orelvis Martinez.
ANALYSIS
Horwitz made his big-league debut in June and went 2-for-8 with an RBI and a run in three games, but he's spent most of the campaign at Triple-A Buffalo, where he has a .946 OPS in 106 contests. MLB rosters expand to 28 players Friday, and the 25-year-old is a strong candidate to be promoted for the stretch run.
