2021 Fantasy Outlook
Burns, a 6-foot, 205-pound righty whom Cleveland selected with the No. 36 overall pick last year, has plus command of a mid-90s fastball with good movement. That vertical movement and the fact he commands the pitch in all four quadrants will allow his fastball to play as at least a plus offering. His breaking ball and changeup both flash plus, but they lack consistency. He also has high-end pitchability and makeup. Burns had a 31.8% strikeout rate and a 7.2% walk rate over his last two seasons at Auburn. He logged a 2.86 ERA working almost exclusively as a starter in college, which is a great mark for an SEC pitcher. Some scouts questioned his ability to handle a starter's workload, given the fact he was limited down the stretch in 2019 with a tight shoulder and has never eclipsed 100 innings. If ever there was a perfect match between a player and developmental staff, it's this one.
