Although Lawson was waived by the Mavericks on Tuesday, it was likely a procedural move to open up a roster spot for Markieff Morris, and he's expected to re-sign with Dallas once he clears waivers, NBA writer Marc Stein reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old guard signed a four-year deal with the Mavs in March, but the last three years were no-guaranteed. A new contract for Lawson with Dallas would likely be a two-way deal. He appeared in 42 regular-season games with the Mavericks in 2023-24, averaging 7.4 minutes a contest, and he saw even more sporadic usage during the team's run to the NBA Finals.
