27-Year-Old GuardG

2024 Fantasy Outlook
DiVincenzo had one of the best seasons of his career during the 2023-24 campaign while featuring in a prominent role for Tom Thibodeau's Knicks. The six-year guard posted career-high marks in several categories, including points (15.5), steals (1.3) and blocks (0.4) while also draining a career-high 40.7 percent from three-point range on 8.7 attempts per contest. The uptick in scoring numbers was directly tied to the fact that key contributors such as Julius Randle and OG Anunoby missed considerable time due to injuries, but either way, DiVincenzo showed he could handle a sizable offensive role. That might not be the case in the 2024-25 campaign. DiVincenzo was sent to the Timberwolves in a surprising trade right before training camp, making that five teams in four years for the Villanova product. In Minnesota, the sharpshooter will likely be a spark plug off the bench. DiVincenzo finished third in the NBA in made three-pointers with 283, so his elite shooting will be an asset to fantasy managers attempting to boost their three-point percentage in roto formats. However, playing behind Mike Conley, Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels makes DiVincenzo unlikely to replicate his breakout campaign from last season. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Donte DiVincenzo, son of John and Kathie, was born in 1997 in Newark, DE. DiVincenzo played three years of varsity basketball at Salesianum High School in Wilmington, leading the team to two consecutive state championships as a junior and senior. In 2015, after averaging 22.9 points and 9 rebounds per game for Salesianum, DiVincenzo was named the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association's Boys' Basketball Player of the Year. A four-star recruit in 2015, DiVincenzo would go on to play 76 games for Villanova across two seasons of collegiate basketball. In his sophomore season, the guard averaged 13.4 points and 3.5 assists and was named the Big East Sixth Man of the Year. DiVincenzo heated up in the NCAA Tournament, averaging 23 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in the Final Four as Villanova took down Michigan in the National Championship game. He's also a member of the Starting Five of the Hoops2O foundation, established by fellow NBAer Malcolm Brogdon, which strives "to score clean, accessible drinking water for those in need." Learn more about the foundation at waterboys.org. You can follow DiVincenzo on Instagram @Divincenzo. In the final game of his college career, DiVincenzo came out a winner. He scored a career-high 31 points - including five 3-pointers - with five rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the 2018 National Championship game against Michigan. It capped a three-year odyssey with Villanova that had its share of fits and starts. The 6-4 guard played in nine games as a freshman before breaking his right foot. He returned as a redshirt freshman and provided 8.8 points and 3.8 rebounds in 25.5 minutes off the Wildcat bench. DiVincenzo scored 25 points in a Big East Tournament win over St. John's and opened the NCAA Tournament with 21 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Mount St. Mary's. In his sophomore year, the guard started 10 games, but coach Jay Wright implemented a six-man rotation and DiVincenzo went on to play 29.3 minutes per contest. He averaged 13.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists, and hit 40.1 percent of his three-pointers. DiVincenzo was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2018 NCAA Tournament and soon after applied for that summer's Draft.

ANALYSIS
With Mike Conley sidelined, DiVincenzo drew two straight starts but failed to make a major impact. Conley is back, so DiVincenzo will revert to his usual reserve role. The sharpshooter is shooting only 32.2 percent from deep this season.

DiVincenzo has made a nice career as a role player off the bench, and he's on to his third team now. The former Villanova standout signed a four-year deal with the Knicks in the offseason and should be able to find sixth-man minutes off the bench. The one big issue with DiVincenzo is how muddled this wing rotation is right now. Quentin Grimes, RJ Barrett, Josh Hart and Immanuel Quickley should all receive minutes this year, and it'll be tough for DiVincenzo to consistently reach over 25 minutes with so many cooks in the kitchen. That's close to what we saw for him last season, averaging 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.1 threes across 26 minutes a night. He also shot 44 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 82 percent from the free-throw line. That's a well-rounded line from a fantasy perspective, but his ceiling appears limited with New York. The only hope is that Tom Thibodeau falls in love with him and pulls minutes from other players. That's not out of the realm of possibility when looking at Thibodeau's track record, but it would be wise to leave DiVincenzo on your waiver wires until we see some encouraging signs.
DiVincenzo tore a ligament in his ankle during the first round of the Bucks' 2021 Championship run, delaying his start to the 2021-22 campaign. He made his season debut on Christmas Day, though he didn't see 20 minutes in a single game until Jan. 17. His time with the Bucks was short-lived, as Milwaukee traded him to Sacramento in February. DiVincenzo saw more minutes with the Kings, who were dealing with injuries. He averaged 10.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals in 26.6 minutes during that run. As a result of the struggles with his two-point shot, DiVincenzo connected on just 36.2 percent of his shots from the field, though he shot a solid 36.8 percent from three on 5.8 attempts per game. He also made 83.9 percent of his 2.2 free throws per game. However, the Kings opted not to keep DiVincenzo around. The Villanova product signed a contract with the 2022 Champion Warriors during the summer, where he figures to duke it out with Jordan Poole Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga for a depth option in the backcourt.. He's a strong conceptual fit with Golden State. He can pass, cut and knock down threes, and he's strong defensively. However, there may not be enough minutes for him to be relevant in standard fantasy leagues. DiVincenzo's best fantasy season came in 2019-20 when he ranked 115th in per-game production in 23.0 minutes per game. That's probably a best-case scenario for him this time around, so he's most often viewed as a deep-league option.
DiVincenzo stepped into a full-time starting role with the Bucks last season. The third-year guard saw 27.5 minutes per game and posted career highs nearly across the board, averaging 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals. He also made 2.0 threes per contest at a quality 37.9 percent. That resulted in him ranking 125th in fantasy on a per-game basis. However, DiVincenzo tore a ligament in his ankle during the first round of the playoffs, keeping him out for almost all of the Bucks' title run. He's reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery, so it seems like there's a chance he'll be ready for the start of the season. It's a situation that fantasy managers should monitor. That said, once he is ready to step on the court, DiVincenzo should again start at shooting guard and see close to 30 minutes per night. He doesn't have significant competition at the position, though Pat Connaughton, Grayson Allen and George Hill will have their nights. Given Milwaukee's established offense of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday and Brook Lopez, there isn't much room for DiVincenzo to take a massive leap forward. However, he's shown intriguing potential as a well-rounded, two-way player. For that reason, fantasy managers in standard leagues have justification to draft him with a last-round flier, but he'll likely be a better pick in deep leagues given that he's more of a high-floor player rather than a high-ceiling player.
As a rookie in 2018-19, DiVincenzo appeared in just 27 contests and logged 15.2 minutes per game while posting modest numbers for Milwaukee in a reserve role. He took a big step forward in minutes and production in his second season, averaging 9.2 points, 4.8 boards, 2.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 threes across 23.0 minutes per contest. With recurring injuries to Eric Bledsoe and Khris Middleton throughout the year, DiVincenzo drew 25 starts, though he didn't see a sharp bump in playing time or production in those instances, sharing time with both Pat Connaughton and George Hill. DiVincenzo will be on a new team in 2020-21, as he was dealt to the Kings in the offseason in the trade that sent Bogdan Bogdanovic to Milwaukee. With Sacramento, DiVincenzo could hold a similar role to his sophomore campaign, seeing sixth-man minutes on the wing behind, presumably, Buddy Hield and Harrison Barnes. DiVincenzo makes for a late-round flier in standard fantasy leagues, though his upside is relatively limited since he's not a polished offensive player, with most of his fantasy value coming through steals.
The 17th overall pick in the 2018 Draft by the Bucks, DiVincenzo had a relatively underwhelming rookie campaign. Between injuries and more experienced players in front of him on the depth chart, the guard appeared in just 27 games, averaging 4.9 points on 4.6 shots, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists across 15.2 minutes. He did see some action in the G League, too, playing in four games and averaging 15.3 points (43.1 FG%, 26.9 3P%, 83.3 FT%), 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 block in 28.1 minutes. It seems unlikely DiVincenzo will have a significantly larger role in 2019-20, though simply staying healthy would afford him increased fantasy value. However, that value will likely only matter in the deepest of leagues.
The 17th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, DiVincenzo walks into a winning situation where he'll likely struggle to find significant minutes in Year 1. At 6-foot-5, 205 pounds, DiVincenzo is a scoring guard who will have to compete with the likes of Eric Bledsoe, Malcolm Brogdon, Khris Middleton, Tony Snell, Sterling Brown, Pat Connaughton and Matthew Dellavedova for minutes. The hope is that he'll develop some playmaking skills to couple with his three-point shooting (40.1% 3PT last season), but that may take more than one season to develop. DiVincenzo’s defense, or lack thereof, is what may ultimately prevent him from being a consistent presence in the rotation, and he'll likely spend his fair share of time with the G League's Wisconsin Herd.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

GMinnesota Timberwolves
October 2, 2024
Reports of DiVincenzo being "unhappy with the idea of coming off the bench" have been refuted by league sources, Stefan Bondy of The New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
To the contrary, DiVincenzo was reportedly "pumped about next season and playing with Mikal Bridges." A larger role is likely in Minnesota, but the 27-year-old will be stripped of an opportunity to share the court with his three collegiate teammates in Bridges, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. DiVincenzo had a breakout campaign with the Knicks, canning 40.1 percent of 8.7 three-point attempts per game over 81 regular-season contests while being a threat punishing closeouts and offering quality perimeter defense.
