2024 Fantasy Outlook
Coming off easily his best season to date, Suggs will be looking to establish himself as an elite defensive point guard on a team with playoff aspirations. After playing fewer than 55 games in each of the two previous campaigns, Suggs logged 75 games last year, allowing him to develop a somewhat consistent offensive game. He closed as the 100th-ranked player in nine-category leagues, averaging 12.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.4 steals, 0.6 blocks and 2.0 three-pointers on 47.1 percent from the floor and 75.6 percent from the line. It appears as though Suggs will open the 2024-25 season as the starting point guard, playing alongside newly acquired Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Although he still has both Anthony Black and Cole Anthony to contend with, Suggs' impact on the defensive end should give him first crack. Playing as a lead facilitator could see his assist numbers get closer to 5.0 per game, boosting his overall appeal. With that said, it's hard to see him developing into a high-volume scorer, limiting his ceiling. Considering both sides of the equation, managers are well within their rights to target Suggs in the ninth or tenth round, as a sneaky source of steals, assists and threes. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

As a freshman, Suggs averaged 14.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists for a deep and talented Gonzaga team that didn't taste defeat until the National Championship game. While he wasn't as ball-dominant as some of the other one-and-done freshmen in the class, Suggs' athleticism stood out whenever he took the court, especially on the defensive end. He led the West Coast Conference in defensive rating and defensive win shares, plus checked in at No. 11 in the country in total steals. Suggs flirted with the elusive triple-double on multiple occasions, including an 18-point/10-rebound/6-assist effort against USC in the Elite Eight. His shining moment came in the Final Four against UCLA, however, as Suggs hit a game-winning three from just inside halfcourt to propel Gonzaga to the title game, where the Zags ultimately fell to Baylor.

ANALYSIS
Suggs led the way for Orlando on the offensive end Friday, pacing the Magic in scoring and threes made despite only playing 26 minutes in a blowout loss. Suggs has connected on four or more threes in eight outings, tallying 25 or more points in seven contest.

Suggs was the No. 5 overall pick just two years ago, and it looks like Orlando is already regretting that choice. They decided to take Anthony Black with the sixth pick this year, and both guards play similar roles. Markelle Fultz and Cole Anthony are still in this rotation, too. Fultz had a breakout year as the starting point guard last season, and we have to assume he'll be the primary playmaker once again. That will likely leave Suggs in a bench role again. He was a reserve in 34 of 53 games last year. He was unproductive in that role, averaging 8.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals on 41 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free-throw line. His steals are the only significant aspect for fantasy managers to take solace in because he's one of the better defensive guards in the league. That's not exactly a great recipe for fantasy basketball, though, and we simply can't trust Suggs as long as Fultz, Anthony and Black are all fully healthy.
The No. 5 pick out of Gonzaga last season, Suggs' rookie campaign was mostly disappointing. Injuries limited him to 48 games (45 starts), which didn't help his case, but his play when available was a mixed bag at best. Things were bad out of the gate, with Suggs' first 13 games resulting in a 31.2 percent mark from the field and the same number of turnovers as assists. But throwing away those games only results in 11.9 points on 38/22/75 shooting, 4.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 26.9 minutes per game for the remainder of the year. The bad is obvious - his efficiency was awful. However, looking past that, there are signs that Suggs can have a strong sophomore season. He cut down his turnovers after his first 13 games (down to 2.8 per game). He also got to the free-throw line 3.4 times in his 26.9 minutes - a nice mark considering his overall workload and usage. Plus, his combined 1.8 steals-plus-blocks is a strong tally as well. Of course, much of that won't matter if he doesn't improve efficiency to adequate levels. That will have to be the focus of Suggs' sophomore season, especially since he'll likely have the ball in his hands less often than he did as a rookie. Markelle Fultz will be healthy, and No. 1 overall pick Paolo Banchero will need his share of the rock as a playmaker. Small forward Franz Wagner has also flashed some playmaking potential. It seems as if Orlando will run an egalitarian offense fueled on cuts and ball movement. That will keep Suggs involved, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect any sort of high-level assist production consistently. While Suggs should exceed his rank of 180th in per-game production he posted last season, he's probably still a late-round flier come draft day.
The dynamic guard helped lead Gonzaga to the National Championship Game behind averages of 14.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.9 steals to go with a 50-34-75 shooting line. The three-point and free-throw percentages are somewhat concerning, but Suggs has a smooth-looking jumpshot that should improve with time. Other than Cade Cunningham, Suggs projects as the most well-rounded fantasy player in the class - especially if his high steal rate translates to the next level. Suggs joins a Magic roster in dire need of a player with true star potential. Cole Anthony had an encouraging rookie year and Markelle Fultz was looking better before tearing his ACL, but Suggs is immediately the top asset for a team loaded with cast-offs and theoretical three-and-D wings. It will be interesting to see how Orlando handles the Suggs-Anthony pairing, but Suggs' ability to play both guard spots is a significant mark in his favor. With the Magic mired into a multi-year rebuild and destined for the lottery again in 2022, Suggs is in as good of a stat-producing position as any rookie in the class. In three Summer League appearances, Suggs fared well, putting up 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 block in just 21.8 minutes per game.
