Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Jonathan Christian Davis was born on Feb. 27, 2002 in La Crosse, WI. Davis grew up in La Crosse and played high school basketball for La Crosse Central High School, where he took home the Division 2 state championship as a freshman. As a junior, Davis averaged 23 points and nine rebounds per contest. He raised those figures to 27.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game as a senior en route to Wisconsin Mr. Basketball honors. Davis left La Crosse Central with 2,158 career points -- a school record. Davis committed to play collegiately for Wisconsin, choosing the Badgers over Marquette, Iowa and Minnesota. The guard made an instant impact at the college level, appearing in 31 games and averaging 24.3 minutes per contest as a freshman at Wisconsin. Davis posted 7.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 38.9 percent from three. The following summer, Davis played for Team USA's gold-medal-winning U19 team at the FIBA World Cup in Latvia. As a sophomore, Davis had a breakout campaign, leading Wisconsin in points (19.7) and rebounds (8.2) per game, while adding 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals per contest. Davis worked his way to the free-throw line 6.3 times per game and knocked down 79.1 percent of his attempts. At the end of his sophomore season, Davis was named the Big Ten Player of the Year. In the 2022 NBA Draft, he was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 10th overall pick.
Shows promise off bench
GWashington Wizards
November 3, 2024
Davis registered nine points (4-5 FG, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and one steal across 18 minutes during Saturday's 118-98 loss to the Heat.
ANALYSIS Davis saw a sizable uptick in playing time, though one-third of his points were scored during the last few minutes of the fourth quarter in garbage time. Even so, this performance was a step forward for the former Wisconsin Badger, who had really struggled to get much going through his first three appearances of the year entering Saturday's matchup. Davis is currently buried on the bench behind Jordan Poole, Corey Kispert and Kyshawn George, so it's likely too soon to consider rostering Davis in most leagues.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Davis was a letdown during his rookie season, playing in just 28 games for the Wizards. In that time, he saw just 15.1 minutes per night, averaging 5.8 points, 1.0 assists and 0.6 three-pointers. He did manage to find some rhythm in the final month of the season, sliding into a larger role as the Wizards went into tank mode. He continued that momentum during the 2023 Summer League, compiling steady averages of 16.3 points per game, to go with 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 triples. While that is good on the surface, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Despite parting ways with Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis, the Wizards have added plenty of backcourt depth. Davis will have to compete with Delon Wright, Tyus Jones, Corey Kispert, Jordan Poole and Landry Shamet for playing time. A case could be made to play all of them ahead of Davis, foreshadowing what could be another rough season.
Davis emerged from relative obscurity as a sophomore at Wisconsin to earn consensus All-American First Team honors during the 2021-22 season on the back of 19.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals over 34.2 minutes per contest for a typically slow-paced team. The production earned him a 10th overall selection by the Wizards in the 2022 NBA Draft as a potential pairing with Bradley Beal for years to come. Davis may have an opportunity to find minutes on a Wizards club that doesn't appear ready to challenge in the East, but he didn't fare particularly well in his Summer League appearances. Over three tilts, Davis connected on just 29.6 percent of his shots and averaged 8.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists over 24.8 minutes. He struggled to create the separation needed to take advantage of his mid-range capabilities and hasn't developed a consistent enough shot from deep (33.3 percent in Summer League, 30.6 percent last year at Wisconsin) to be an asset in that respect yet. At best, the rookie figures to be a late-round flier in standard fantasy formats.

February 28, 2024
Davis is averaging 1.5 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 20.0 percent from the field on 3.8 shots in 15.0 minutes across four contests since the All-Star break.
ANALYSIS Davis has been unable to step up despite Deni Avdija being sidelined for Washington's past three contests due to a heel injury, while Bilal Coulibaly and and Corey Kispert have also dealt with a pelvis injury and an illness, respectively. Davis has limped to 35.5 percent shooting across six G League contests as well. The second-year guard could be on the outskirts of the league soon.
