$Signed a three-year, $23.56 million contract with the 76ers in July of 2023. Waived by the 76ers in July of 2024. Claimed off waivers by the Pistons in July of 2024.
Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Paul Reed was born on June 14, 1999 to Paul and Michelle Reed. Reed has four sisters: Hazel, Danielle, Chantel and Janelle. Reed's uncle, Mike Sims-Walker, played four seasons in the NFL as a wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars. His father played collegiate basketball at Old Dominion and UCF before embarking on a professional career in Europe. Reed attended Wekiva High School in Florida, where he was named the Central Florida Player of the Year by the Orlando Sentinel as a senior. Reed led Wekiva to a state-runner-up finish in Florida's Class 9A tournament, averaging 18.2 points and 11.4 boards per game during his senior season. Reed's playing time and counting stats both grew steadily throughout his three seasons with DePaul. As he freshman, he learned behind the likes of Marin Maric and Tre-Darius McCallum, averaging just under ten minutes per game. Reed truly broke out as a sophomore, however, posting 12.3 PPG and 8.5 RPG en route to winning the Big East's Most Improved Player honor. By his junior year, Reed grew into one of the nation's top stat sheet stuffers. He led the Big East in total rebounds (305), was third in field goal percentage (.516) and second in blocks per game (2.6). He recorded 18 double-doubles in 29 games played, with his best effort coming Jan. 4 against Providence, when he recorded 24 points and 15 rebounds. Another highlight came Nov. 29 against Minnesota, when he rejected a career-high eight shots. In a conference loaded with frontcourt talent, Reed landed on the All-Big East second team. He even displayed shades of three-point shooting at the collegiate level, knocking down a total of 34 treys in three season. Riding the momentum of a career season, Reed elected to go pro after his junior year and signed with an agent the following May.
Increased role Wednesday
CDetroit Pistons
November 6, 2024
Reed amassed 13 points (6-6 FG, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, one block and two steals in 12 minutes during Wednesday's 108-107 loss to the Hornets.
ANALYSIS Reed logged a season-high 12 minutes, sliding up in the rotation after Jalen Duren was forced from the game due to an ankle injury. While Duren attempted to play through the issue, he was eventually removed and could certainly be at risk of missing time. Should we get word that Duren will be sidelined for any length of time, Reed could be someone to consider for streaming purposes. Isaiah Stewart would likely move into the starting lineup but is somewhat undersized, so Reed could log meaningful minutes.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
2021
Reed averaged 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds as a backup to Joel Embiid last season, and he'll likely fill that role again in 2022-23. New head coach Nick Nurse has also made comments indicating he'll explore playing Reed and Embiid together, not to mention giving Reed some more opportunities on offense. Reed has been a fantastic per-minute producer throughout his three-year career. The idea of extra minutes and usage bring Reed into fringe-sleeper contention, especially for managers in deep formats.
Despite ending the 2021-22 season as the 344th ranked player, Reed showed enough to hold his place on the roster. With DeAndre Jordan no longer a factor, Reed could get looks at backup center, though the Sixers shored up the position with Montrezl Harrell. Obviously, this does not bode well for his value, although he is certainly a name to watch should Embiid go down with an injury at some point. Per 36 minutes last season, he averaged 13.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.9 steals, 1.9 assists and 1.7 blocks.
Reed saw sporadic run with the 76ers last season, appearing in 26 games and averaging 3.4 points and 2.3 rebounds in 6.8 minutes. However, he was a key piece of the organization's G League squad, the Delaware Blue Coats. There, he was named the 2020-21 MVP behind 22.3 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.8 blocks. He also impressed with shooting splits of 59/44/79. Unsurprisingly, he was excellent during 2021 Summer League, averaging 17.4 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.6 steals, 2.2 blocks and 2.2 assists in 29.3 minutes. Paul will again be battling for reserve frontcourt/wing minutes this season. He'll have to fight off Georges Niang for backup minutes behind Tobias Harris. He may assert himself as the primary backup, but he probably won't be fantasy-relevant even if that's the case. While Reed can be ignored in redraft leagues, he's certainly an intriguing deep dynasty prospect given his G League pedigree and great per-minute stats.

ANALYSIS After some promising moments with the 76ers during the 2023-24 season, Reed has been used sparingly in Detroit. He's made just 10 appearances during the regular season with an average of 10.3 minutes per contest. With a non-guaranteed contract this season and the following, Reed could be easily moved to a new team or included as a salary filler. Fantasy managers in deeper formats will want to remember Reed's name if he finds a better situation.
