DFS College Basketball: Monday Elite Eight Preview

DFS College Basketball: Monday Elite Eight Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

With just one week remaining in the NCAA Tournament, the first two Elite Eight matchups are taking place, highlighted by the contest between Baylor and Arkansas in which both teams have the highest expected totals on Monday's slate.

Targets

1. Davonte Davis, G, Arkansas ($5,700 DK, $6,200 FD)

While both Arkansas and Baylor are proficient defensively, Monday's matchup should be highlighted by two elite offenses. Davis has played a key role for the Razorbacks in the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament and has averaged 34.3 minutes per game during that time. The freshman has attempted just one three-pointer to begin the tournament but has shot 51.3 percent from the floor and has averaged 14.3 points per game across the past three contests. In addition to his scoring production, Davis has hauled in at least six rebounds in each of the past seven contests. Davis is one of the top mid-range players on Monday's DFS slate and should remain heavily involved against Baylor in the Elite Eight.

2. Jared Butler, G, Baylor ($7,700 DK, $7,500 FD)

Butler has shot just 19.0 percent from beyond the arc in the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament, but the Razorbacks have a middling defense against three-point attempts, per KenPom. Even though Butler has been inefficient from long distance in the past three games, he still leads the Bears in three-point attempts this year and should continue to see plenty of looks against Arkansas on Monday. Butler has still averaged 12.7 points per game in the past three matchups and presents considerable upside if he can rediscover his shot from beyond the arc in the Elite Eight.

3. DeJon Jarreau, G, Houston ($6,000 DK, $6,400 FD)

While the matchup between Houston and Oregon State doesn't have as much scoring potential as the game between Baylor and Arkansas, Jarreau has plenty of DFS potential after returning to form in the past two contests. Jarreau wasn't at 100 percent in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and played just one minute in the Cougars' blowout win over Cleveland State. However, the redshirt senior has averaged 33.0 minutes per game across the past two matchups and should see plenty of run against the Beavers on Monday. He was unable to score in double figures during the Sweet 16, but he had eight rebounds and eight assists and would have had 5x value at his current DFS salary on both platforms.

4. Matthew Mayer, F, Baylor ($5,000 DK, $4,900 FD)

Mayer has come off the bench in every game during his first three seasons with Baylor, but he's displayed plenty of potential on the scoreboard and on the boards during his junior year. He was held in check against Villanova during the Sweet 16 but recorded at least 26.0 DFS points in each of the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. During that time, Mayer averaged 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game. Arkansas ranks 10th in the nation in defensive efficiency, per KenPom, but with limited options on Monday's two-game slate, Mayer is one of the top value plays due to the upside that he displayed early in the tournament.

Fades

1. MaCio Teague, G, Baylor ($6,700 DK, $6,600 FD)

Teague was a top performer for the Bears late in the regular season and early in tournament play, but he's been far less productive during the Round of 32 and the Sweet 16. The senior has shot just 29.4 percent from the floor in his last two appearances while averaging 7.0 points per game during that time. Teague has relied on his two-point shot more across the past two contests, an area where the Razorbacks are more efficient defensively. While Teague was a strong DFS contributor prior to his last two appearances, his recent cold streak makes him a risky play on Monday's two-game slate.

2. Zach Reichle, G, Oregon State ($4,300 DK, $4,200 FD)

Reichle has been in the starting lineup for every game this season but has the least usage of any starter across the past 10 contests. While he had a strong performance against Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, he's had minimal production in the past two games even though he averaged 24.5 minutes per contest during that time. He's failed to convert on any of his five field goal attempts in the past two games, and his only scoring output during that time came from his six free throws in the Sweet 16 on Saturday. Reichle has a low DFS salary for the Elite Eight but doesn't have much upside against Houston's strong defense.

3. Jaylin Williams, C, Arkansas ($4,200 DK, $4,600 FD)

Williams has joined the starting five in each of the past two games and hauled in 10 rebounds while playing 28 minutes in the Round of 32 against Texas Tech. However, the freshman has averaged 1.5 points across his last two appearances and played just nine minutes during the Sweet 16. It's not yet clear whether Williams will remain in the starting lineup for Monday's Elite Eight matchup, but the center is unlikely to be a significant contributor against Baylor regardless of his starting status.
