Diarra had a game-high nine assists and added four points (2-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 0-1 FT), three rebounds and two steals in Monday's exhibition win over Rhode Island.
ANALYSIS
Diarra has a lot of pressure this season to be the two-time defending champs' starting point guard with Tristen Newton graduating. Diarra showed that he is ready for that role controlling the offense with nine assists. UConn doesn't need him to score the ball a bunch with a number of other really talented scorers, but as long as he keeps the offense in flow coach Dan Hurley is going to keep riding with Diarra. The Huskies open the season on Nov. 6 against Sacred Heart.
