2024 Tournament PreviewAfter failing to make the Sweet Sixteen amid lofty expectations last season, this year's equally formidable Marquette squad hopes to deliver for coach Shaka Smart. Led by guards Kam Jones (16.8 ppg) and Tyler Kolek (15.0 ppg, 7.6 apg), both of whom top 40 percent on 3-pointers, the Golden Eagles rank top 25 in both offensive and defensive efficiency (per KenPom). Depth is a concern, though, as Kolek missed the last six games with an oblique injury (though he's expected back for Tournament), sixth-man Sean Jones was lost for the season in January and 6-11 Oso Ighodaro (14.0 ppg, 6.9 rpg) injured his knee in the Big East tourney final. Marquette capitalizes with turnovers, both avoiding them (28th) and creating them (20th), but it struggles on the glass and at the foul line. While wins against Kansas and Illinois are encouraging, the Golden Eagles had a tough time with elite teams, losing to Purdue and three times to UConn, including in the conference title game.
