2024 Tournament PreviewEntering March on the bubble, New Mexico swept through the Mountain West tournament, defeating three NCAA Tournament teams along the way. The Lobos have one of the nation's best backcourt duos in seniors Jaelen House (16.1 ppg, 2.3 spg) and Jamal Mashburn Jr. (14.4 ppg), who scored 28 and 21 points, respectively, in the MWC title game. Sophomore guard Donovan Dent (14.3 ppg) was pivotal when the aforementioned duo battled injuries early in the year. With a top-10 tempo (per KenPom), the offense keeps opponents on their heels, and 6-10 Nelly Junior Joseph (8.8 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 1.4 bpg) and 6-9 JT Toppin (12.5, 9.0 rpg, 1.9 bpg) control the boards, as New Mexico is top 50 in offensive rebound rate. The Lobos are also defensively sound, ranking top 25 in both efficiency (per KenPom) and opponent 3-point percentage. New Mexico has the attributes to give high-major teams fits in the first weekend.
