DFS College Football 101: Week 9 Friday

This is a fantastic time to play some weekday College Football DFS. Following a hearty five-game slate yesterday, we have another strong five-game set to build some confident lineups on Friday. It's my goal to help you make that happen with the following write-ups. Here are the four games we are looking at along with the corresponding odds for each:

Louisiana Tech at Florida Atlantic (-3.5) – Total: 58 *FanDuel Only*

Miami (-3) at Boston College – Total: 50.5

Indiana (-2) at Minnesota – Total: 54

Wyoming (-1) at Colorado State – Total: 46

Utah (-10.5) at UCLA – Total: 55

Looking within that, I'll highlight the best fantasy selections on FanDuel & DraftKings while also touching on some situations to monitor for your DFS squads.

QUARTERBACK

Tyler Huntley - Utah (FanDuel $10,000 / DraftKings $10,000)

Tyler Huntley is hands down the best quarterback of this slate, and it's not even close. He's expensive on both sites but well worth the investment with several value commodities making his salary more attainable (we'll get to those bargains later in the article). Huntley has been on a tear lately with 37+ fantasy points in back-to-back games, showing his prowess through the air and ground alike. That should continue against a mediocre UCLA defense, and the Utes check in with the highest scoring projection of the night.

Also Consider: If you are looking for a cheap quarterback at the Super FLEX position, Colorado State

Wyoming (-1) at Colorado State – Total: 46

Also Consider: If you are looking for a cheap quarterback at the Super FLEX position, Colorado State QB Collin Hill is your guy. He has been named the starter this week after relieving incumbent signal caller Carta-Samuels to the tune of a 12-14, 135 yard and one touchdown stat-line in the final quarter last Friday. It's hard to say if that's a byproduct of garbage time or if Hill really has some talent to make things happen. He's dirt-cheap on both sites, and it doesn't hurt that he showed some rapport with top receivers, Williams and Jackson, last week … Peyton Ramsey of Indiana is another viable option against a Minnesota defense that was absolutely toasted through the air at Nebraska last Saturday. There are clearly some issues in that Gophers' secondary, and Ramsey has the ability to carve them up on a short week … J'mar Smith is an interesting tournament option for the Louisiana Tech at Florida Atlantic game on FanDuel. FAU ranks 115th in opponent passer rating, and Smith has a pair of talented receivers who can help him pile up numbers.

RUNNING BACK

Nico Evans - Wyoming (FanDuel $9,400 / DraftKings $8,300)

Wyoming can't throw the football; let's just start by identifying that fact. They rely heavily on the ground game with Nico Evans and company. Evans has seen 24+ carries in two of his past three games, and I would be shocked if he didn't surpass that threshold on Friday. The Wyoming RB is averaging a solid 19.8 FPPG this season, and he has an amazing opportunity raise that number against a CSU defense that ranks 103rd in opponent yards per carry (5.0).

Zack Moss - Utah (FanDuel $9,200 / DraftKings $7,900)

I'm leaning towards Evans and Singletary on FanDuel, but Zack Moss is certainly in the mix on both sites as well. Game flow should be on his side as the Utes check in as a double-digit favorite at UCLA. We all know Moss will see plenty of volume, but it comes down to whether he or Utah QB Huntley absorbs majority of the scoring opportunities. Honestly, there may be room for both to thrive in this one.

Also Consider: Florida Atlantic RB Devin Singletary may be the best fantasy play at his position of any slate this week. He was finally slowed down last week at Marshall last time around, but I'm expecting a huge bounce-back performance at home on Friday … Stevie Scott and Mohamed Ibrahim are two volume-driven running backs from the Indiana and Minnesota matchup. I'm leaning towards Stevie Scott of the two, as he is facing a Gophers' defense that is allowing 4.9 yards per carry this season.

WIDE RECEIVER

Preston Williams – Colorado State (FanDuel $10,000 / DraftKings $7,600)

This is somewhat risky taking Preston Williams with a new quarterback throwing to him. Wyoming has a pretty solid pass defense as well. However, Colorado State is a pass-happy offense that will lean heavily on their best receiver to consistently move the chains. That will always be the case regardless of who is playing quarterback. I'm expecting Williams to continue seeing plenty of looks to thrive for fantasy purposes. He's one of the highest producing receivers in the nation, and he should be firmly on your radar for this slate.

Tyler Johnson – Minnesota (FanDuel $9,700 / DraftKings $8,500)

This pick is more for FanDuel than DraftKings, as it is difficult to fit both Williams and Johnson on DK. However, the pricing is much looser on FanDuel, especially if you choose to roll with CSU QB Collin Hill at minimum salary. That would allow you to stack the other positions, and Johnson becomes an attainable fantasy commodity. He's an extremely talented receiver who represents one of the few bright spots for Minnesota at this point in the season. I'm expecting Indiana to load up against the run and force the Gophers to the air in this matchup. That could help pad Johnson's numbers, and he has flexed some nice upside with 20+ FP in four of eight games this season.

Also Consider: On DraftKings, we'll need to dig a little deeper to round out the receiver spots. Luke Timian has been a big part of the Indiana passing game over the past few weeks, catching six passes on 12 targets last week. As mentioned earlier, the Minnesota pass defense has been struggling lately, so Timian could take advantage. He's only $3,800 on DraftKings. His teammate Whop Philyor has been great at times this season, but an injury has slowed him in recent weeks. He was back on the field at Penn State last Saturday, and perhaps another week of healing will have him returning to form … I mentioned earlier how Florida Atlantic's pass defense ranked 115th in the country. LaTech receivers Teddy Veal and Adrian Hardy will look to take full advantage. Veal is the preferred option of the two, but either of them make for solid WR3 options on FanDuel … Don't forget about Warren Jackson of Colorado State, who has stepped into the WR2 role for the Rams with Olabisi Johnson banged up in recent weeks. Jackson and new starting QB Hill hooked up on a touchdown in the fourth quarter of last week's game, which could be a sign of things to come between this connection.
