Bowman has now been benched in back to back games, but comments from head coach Mike Gundy indicate that he's not in the business of playing a younger player just for the heck of it. Despite a dismal 3-7 season, including an 0-7 record in conference play, Gundy appears to be sticking with his starting signal caller to close the season. This is Bowman's last season of eligibility, so that may factor into the decision to keep him as the starter as well.

The transfer portal was the theme of Oklahoma State’s offseason as four-year starter Spencer Sanders departed for Ole Miss and Bowman came in from Michigan. The Cowboys should know Bowman well as he carved up the Pokes at the beginning of his collegiate career when he was at Texas Tech. During his sophomore season in 2020, he threw for 384 yards and three touchdowns at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Bowman is hoping a return to the Big 12 Conference will boost him back to college football relevance as he attempted just 11 passes in two years for the Wolverines. He’ll have the benefit of operating in Mike Gundy’s high-octane offense, but there are some question marks on this team as they return just 13 starters from a year ago. There’s not a lot of depth on this team, so it will be interesting to see what Bowman can do with unproven weapons.
