Stacked up in big loss
Mellusi had 11 carries for 66 yards during Saturday's 42-10 loss versus Alabama. He also caught four of five targets for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mellusi was contained rather easily by the Crimson Tide's defensive front, as the Badgers were held to just 3.7 yards per rush as a team Saturday. The sixth-year senior running back's longest play from scrimmage was a 21-yard carry on which he fumbled at his own 28-yard line. This set up Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe for a three-yard rushing touchdown that put his team up 14-3 late in the second quarter. Mellusi has now averaged just 4.3 yards per carry across 46 attempts in three contests. Unless the Badgers' run-blocking shows significant improvements going forward, it's unlikely he'll find much more success against defenses in the Big Ten moving forward. Especially after starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke suffered what appears to be a significant injury early in the first quarter Saturday, according to SBNation.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
Mellusi struggled to find his footing during his first season in Wisconsin’s run-heavy offense. The Clemson transfer produced a respectable 4.7 yards per carry on 173 carries before suffering a season-ending torn ACL in Week 10. Wisconsin’s running game uncharastically struggled during Mellusi’s time as starter, though inconsistent offensive-line play was at least partially to blame for this inefficiency. Veteran coach Bob Bostad stepped back into his former role as Wisconsin’s offensive line coach this spring and he should help solve this issue moving forward. Wisconsin’s ground game bounced back once freshman phenom Braelon Allen began receiving the lion’s share of snaps over the second half of the 2021 season, thus cementing his position as the primary running back for years to come. Mellusi’s elusive, yet strong running style should make him the perfect complement to Allen as Wisconsin’s coaching staff likely employs multiple backs to help shoulder the overall rushing burden.
