Declares for 2017 NFL Draft
December 31, 2016
Cook announced Saturday that he has declared for the 2017 NFL Draft, Ben Kercheval of CBS Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Cook put a bow on what was a tremendous college career in Friday's Orange Bowl, rushing for 145 yards and a touchdown and adding 62 receiving yards against Michigan. He finished the season with 1,765 yards (6.13 YPC) and 19 touchdowns. Cook leaves Florida State as the school's all-time leading rusher with 4,464 yards in just three seasons. Now that he has officially declared, Cook immediately becomes one of the top running back prospects in the upcoming draft alongside Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey. He checks in at 5-11, 213, but he has the power and leg drive to move the pile on inside runs in addition to his blazing speed. Cook will likely be selected no later than early in the second round of the upcoming draft.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2014
A hamstring injury dogged Cook (5-11, 206) for much of 2015, and his multiple shortened games might bitterly remain in the minds of those who owned him. Still, shortened games or not, it's hard to complain about 1,935 yards and 20 TDs from scrimmage. Cook's average of 7.4 YPC is almost certainly unsustainable – he averaged 5.9 yards per carry in 2014 – but Cook is clearly an elite talent, and perhaps the best running back in the country. Florida State's modest offensive tempo and the potential of a scaled back workload to preserve his health hinders his upside.
Cook is arguably the top running back recruit of 2014, and he'll have a chance to immediately step in as the top backup to star lead runner Karlos Williams. The Seminoles really spread the ball around a lot in the running game. Williams is a senior, so Cook should be a star in 2015 at the latest, though he'll need to hold off fellow talented runner Mario Pender to get there.
