Suffers ankle sprain Saturday
Head coach Jeff Brohm indicated that Chaney (ankle) suffered a high ankle sprain during Saturday's 49-14 victory over Jacksonville State, per Matt McGavic of SI.com.
ANALYSIS
Chaney carried the ball three time for 21 yards prior to the injury, finding the end zone on a 10-yard scamper in the first quarter. The redshirt junior running back ran for 478 yards and two scores for Miami in 2023 before transferring to Louisville in the offseason. Chaney's timeline for return is thus far unknown, though it can be reasonably assumed that he will miss some time.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
Chaney heads into 2021 as a piece to a crowded backfield in Coral Gables. As a freshman, Chaney showed flashes of potential, putting up 143 total against Duke and 94 total against Oklahoma State, but is battling Cam’Ron Harris and Jaylan Knighton for touches. Miami says they are committed to using a featured back rather than a committee, but it’s unsure if that’s game to game, or if a true lead will emerge. Long term, Chaney and Knighton have great potential as a thunder and lightning duo, but for 2021, it’s hard to predict a big breakout, as his style and body are more similar to Harris, who returned after flirting with the NFL Draft and likely didn’t do so to sit. He’ll get his touches, but anything more than a repeat of 2020 would surprise. He’s a year away from big potential.
