With Danny O'Neil (knee) sidelined, Tupou'ata-Johnson was tasked with his first collegiate start in a tough matchup with Cal. It did not go well for the true freshman, who threw a pair of interceptions though he managed to boost his final line with a 40-yard touchdown throw to Jordan Napier in the fourth quarter. If O'Neil can suit up next week against Central Michigan, expect Tupou'ata-Johnson to return to a backup role.
