2024 Fantasy Outlook
James showed in his sophomore season that he could post solid yardage and efficiency even if he wasn't at the top of the depth chart. The 5-foot-10 running back rushed 107 times for 759 yards and 11 touchdowns in the 2023 season, tying the rushing touchdowns of now Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving. As the supplementary help to Irving, James showed his ability to produce on the ground, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. As the sole running back for the Ducks, James is primed to have a breakout year and slot in as one of the top running backs in now the Big Ten as long as he can stay healthy and keep the run game going concurrently with Oregon's explosive passing attack. Read Past Outlooks
Cruises for two scores Saturday
James totaled 12 rushes for 86 yards and two touchdowns and hauled in both of his targets for zero yards during Saturday's 49-14 victory against Oregon State.
ANALYSIS
James found more room to run after back-to-back unsteady performances from Oregon's offensive line and rushing game in Weeks 1 and 2. The 210-pound junior also got the ball on both of Oregon's touchdowns in the low red zone, including a four-yard carry on the opening drive and a one-yard plunge late in the third quarter. James was one of the silver linings when the Ducks' rushing offense struggled early, and he's now averaged 6.4 yards per carry on 44 opportunities this season. No.2 running back Noah Whittington remained involved with seven carries for 64 yards versus the Beavers. Yet, James' production and workload through the first three weeks should leave fantasy owners optimistic for his production if the Ducks can continue to roll moving forward. He should have a good chance to wrack up the rushing yards when Oregon next plays Saturday, Sept. 28 versus a UCLA squad that just lost 42-13 to Indiana.
