Leads Oregon to comeback bowl win
January 1, 2020
Herbert completed 14-of-20 passes for 138 yards and one interception and ran the ball nine times for 29 yards and three touchdowns in the Rose Bowl against Wisconsin on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Herbert caught Wisconsin by surprise with his first rushing score on a zone-read, capping off the opening drive with a touchdown to give his team an early lead. The rushing score was unusual for the senior, but he struck again when his team needed him most, trailing in the fourth quarter with a 30-yard run for the game-winning touchdown. Overall, it was far from Herbert's best game in his four years in Eugene, but by capping his career with a Rose Bowl win it will be a game he'll never forget. Herbert will now set his sights for the NFL draft, where he'll compete to be one of the first quarterbacks taken.

2017
Long anticipated as a potential first overall pick the NFL draft, Herbert nonetheless returned to for his senior season in what should be a strong Oregon offense. His numbers regressed in 2018, with his completion percentage proving problematic at just 59.4, perhaps due to the Pac-12's strong collective showing on defense. The schedule doesn't appear any easier for 2019, unfortunately, and the loss of lead wideout Dillon Mitchell is a concern, but Herbert managed to throw for 29 touchdowns last year despite the various difficulties. Durability is a slight concern after he absorbed a shoulder injury in the regular season finale, and a concussion before that
If Herbert were guaranteed a fully healthy season and a system under Mario Cristobal that was just as effective as it was under Willie Taggart, he'd be much higher on this list. When healthy, few could match what Herbert could do on a per game basis last year, completing 67 percent of his passes with a 9.6 YPA in addition to posing a run threat. In seven full games under Herbert last year Oregon averaged 49.7 points. Unfortunately, health has to be baked into the equation here, but he still could be kingmaker in most leagues even if he plays 10-11 games.
He wasn't expected to see the field much with touted grad transfer Dakota Prukop at quarterback, but the latter faltered and Oregon turned to Herbert, a true freshman, in hopes of salvaging last season. There was no hope for Oregon, it would turn out, but Herbert proved promising. As the team around him sank, he threw for 1,936 yards, (7.6 YPA), 19 touchdowns and four interceptions in seven starts, and that was while playing tough defenses like Washington, USC, Stanford and Utah. New coach Willie Taggart helped make Quinton Flowers a star at USF, and Herbert should benefit too.
