2023 Fantasy Outlook
There is opportunity for Mitchell in 2023. The top-two receiving options for the Panthers have moved on, leaving Mitchell as the top returning receiver. He was third on the team with 348 receiving yards, and tied for first with four receiving touchdowns. What makes him more intriguing is the fact he was sixth on the team in catches. He averaged 15.1 yards per catch, and 6.8 yards per target. The question is who will be throwing the ball to Mitchell. Grayson James was lackluster in 2022, but this will be the team’s second year under head coach Mike McIntyre. It’s discouraging that Mitchell had five games without a receiving yard in 2023, but at the very least that shouldn’t happen this year, with Mitchell likely to see significantly more targets, and presumably more catches as a result. If Mitchell steps into Tyrese Chambers’ role from last year, namely reeling in around 51 catches, he could be an intriguing player in the new-look Conference USA.
