Ends college career
January 1, 2021
Ehlinger (shoulder) intends to give up his remaining eligibility at Texas to enter the 2021 NFL Draft, Anwar Richardson of Rivals.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Due to the NCAA granting blanket waivers to all players for the pandemic-affected 2020 season, Ehlinger would have had the option of returning to Texas for a fifth year in 2021. As a four-year starter for the Longhorns who has already put out plenty of tape for scouts to dissect, Ehlinger likely wouldn't have been able to improve his draft stock much by staying in school for another year, so he'll instead get his professional career underway. The Longhorns will likely hold a competition during spring and fall camp to replace their longtime starter, but look for Casey Thompson to have the early edge after he excelled in relief of a banged-up Ehlinger in Texas' Alamo Bowl victory over Colorado earlier this week.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2020
2019
Ehlinger is one of college football's top returning quarterbacks after completing 65.2 percent of his passes for 3,663 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2019 to go along with 163 rushing attempts for 663 yards (4.1 yards per carry) and seven more scores on the ground. It is worth noting that Texas will be installing a new offense in 2020 with new offensive coordinator, Mike Yurcich, who led Oklahoma State's explosive offense from 2013-2018. While Ehlinger lost his two top receivers, Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson, to the NFL, he has a pair of talented wideouts in Jake Smith and Brennan Eagles who should help him return value as one of the first signal callers picked in fantasy drafts this year.
Ehlinger’s performance down the stretch in 2018 gave a glimpse of what Texas’ offense looks like when it’s clicking on all cylinders. The then-sophomore completed 66.7 percent of his passes with an 8.2 YPA to go with five rushing scores in his last two games against Oklahoma and Georgia. He is Texas’ best goal line option, which solidifies his rushing touchdown projection. Ehlinger also has a talented supporting cast headlined by senior Collin Johnson, who is coming off a 985-yard season. Ehlinger will be the driving force behind what is projected to be an up-tempo, high-scoring offense
