Five youngsters to watch in IPL 2021

The start of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is less than 10 days away and the excitement is reaching its peak.

The basic purpose of a competition like the IPL is to give youngsters a chance to showcase their talent at the highest level which will help them once they represent their respective national teams in the future.

Therefore, we are bringing you a list of five young players who are likely to emerge as the next big thing after the IPL 2021.

Shubman Gill (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Shubman Gill is already a renowned name in Indian cricket. Despite representing India in seven Tests and three ODIs already, the right-hander is only 21-year-old.

Gill has played 41 matches in the IPL where he has managed to score 939 runs at an average of 33.53, which included seven half-centuries.

In T20 cricket, Gill has played 51 matches where he has 1,217 runs which included nine half-centuries.

Gill will be representing Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming campaign and the team management will be hoping to see an impressive performance from the right-hander.

Rahul Chahar (Mumbai Indians)

Mumbai Indians' Rahul Chahar is another famous name in Indian cricket. The 21-year-old has already represented the national team in three T20Is, which included two against England recently where he had a relatively good time with the ball in hand.

Abdul Samad (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Sunrisers Hyderabad's Abdul Samad will be another youngster to look forward to in this year's IPL.

The 19-year-old has an impressive record in T20 cricket where he has managed to score 491 runs at an average of 35.07 along with a strike-rate of 146.56, which included two half-centuries.

However, in the IPL, Samad's record isn't that impressive as he has only managed to score 111 runs at an average of 22.20.

Devdutt Padikkal (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)'s Devdutt Padikkal will be one of the future stars to watch out for in the IPL 2021.

The left-hander had an outstanding time in the previous edition of the competition where he finished as the leading run-getter for RCB.

Even after that, Padikkal has been in an outstanding form where he finished as the second leading run-scorer with Prithvi Shaw in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy.

In his T20 career, Padikkal has managed to score 1,271 runs at an outstanding average of 43.82, which included one century and 11 half-centuries.

Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals)

Rajasthan Royals' Riyan Parag will be an interesting watch in the competition as well. The 19-year-old has an impressive record in the shortest format of the game where he has managed to score 817 runs in 41 matches at an average of 28.17 and also has 16 wickets to his name with his leg-break.

However, in the IPL, Parag has a pretty average record and it will be interesting to see if he can turn his numbers around.
