Chase McLaughlin

28-Year-Old KickerK
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2024 Fantasy Outlook
McLaughlin has kicked in games for seven different teams since entering the league in 2019, including full seasons as the starting placekicker for Cleveland (2021), Indianapolis (2022) and Tampa Bay (2023). Last season marked his most accurate performance yet, with McLaughlin making 29 of 31 field goals (including seven of eight from 50-plus yards) and each of his 33 PATs. He's now 24 of 29 (82.8 percent) from 50-plus yards for his career, which would be more impressive if not for his 60 percent rate in the 40-49 range. In any case, he's missed just two PATs and one field goal inside of 40 yards, making for a solid track record overall. McLaughlin should at least be useful as a streamer in favorable matchups, attached to a Bucs offense that was solid-but-unspectacular last season and returns most of the same key pieces. McLaughlin converted all three field-goal attempts -- from 56, 34 and 29 yards -- while also drilling all four extra-point tries in the Buccaneers' 37-20 win over the Commanders on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
McLaughlin had a somewhat rocky preseason, but when the proverbial lights came on in Week 1, the veteran kicker was as good as he looked during a career-best 2023 season. McLaughlin kicked all his field goals in the first half, starting with the 56-yarder that capped off Tampa Bay's first possession. McLaughlin was an elite 7-for-8 from 50+ yards a season ago, and his perfect start Sunday combined with the efficiency demonstrated by Baker Mayfield and the offense appears to bode well for the veteran kicker's chances of replicating his success this season.

McLaughlin had a strong 2022 for the Colts in real-life terms, missing only one kick inside 40 yards (including PATs) while making 9 of 11 from 40-49 yards and 9 of 12 from 50-plus. The problem for fantasy purposes was a glaring lack of PAT volume, with McLaughlin getting only 21 in 16 games as the Colts struggled mightily on offense. He'll be attached to a better offensive line and WR group in Tampa Bay, but the QB issues that dragged him down last season could once again be an issue with Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask competing for the starting job. There's also the matter of McLaughlin converting only 78.8 percent of FGAs for his career, but for now he's the only kicker on the roster of the Bucs, who parted ways with Ryan Succop this offseason.
McLaughlin was slated to battle Cody Parkey for the Browns' kicking job, but with Parkey on IR, McLaughlin is now in line to kick for the team. It's a job that merits fantasy attention for the 25-year-old while working behind the team's Baker Mayfield-led offense, which will welcome back top wideout Odell Beckham from a knee injury that derailed his 2020 campaign.
This summer, McLaughlin competed with undrafted rookie Rodrigo Blankenship, a four-year starter at Georgia who has both a cult following and a trophy for the Lou Groza Award, for the Colts' kicking job. The job was subsequently won by Blankenship.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Wins starting job
KTampa Bay Buccaneers
August 21, 2023
McLaughlin appears set to be the Buccaneers' kicker in 2023 after Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports the team waived Rodrigo Blankenship.
ANALYSIS
Both kickers saw action for Indianapolis last season, but McLaughlin won that battle and went on to kick 30 field goals in 16 games for the Colts, and now he's won this one, too. The Bucs could always bring in further competition before Week 1, but assuming McLaughlin's job is secure, he'll be supporting an offense with unsettled situations at quarterback and running back but that still features the talented duo of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin at wide receiver.
