2024 Fantasy Outlook
Prater doesn't seem to have lost his touch, though he'll turn 40 in August and is entering his 18th NFL season. While he got just 23 PATs in 2023 for a lousy Arizona team -- en route to finishing 22nd among kickers in fantasy points -- Prater made nine of 12 field-goal attempts from 50-plus yards, including a 62-yarder. There's potential for a productive fantasy season ahead if the dome-based Cardinals improve and provide more PATs and chip shots, though it's still somewhat of a long shot for Prater to rank among the leaders in overall kicking volume while attached to one of the younger and more star-deficient teams in the league. Won't return for Week 18
Prater (knee) won't play Sunday against the 49ers, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chad Ryland closes out the season as Arizona's kicker, with Prater having missed the past three months due to a meniscus injury. Prater's return to practice for the past few weeks suggests he should be healthy for 2025, but he's scheduled for free agency this offseason and will turn 41 in August. Ryland, meanwhile, is 25 years old and has missed just four field-goal attempts and one PAT all year, bouncing back strong after a brutal rookie season with New England in 2023.

Prater had five conversions from 50-plus yards in seven of the last eight seasons, aided by friendly kicking environments in Detroit and now Arizona. From a real-life standpoint, he's probably still a top-10 kicker, but there's not a ton of fantasy upside with the Cardinals looking like one of the weaker teams in the league and possibly playing the start of the season without QB Kyler Murray. Even last year Prater was 25th among kickers in fantasy points per game, and that was with Murray healthy much of the year.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Absence impacted game plan
Coach Kliff Kingsbury admitted after the Week 6 loss to Seattle that Prater's absence due to a hip injury impacted the team's decision to keep going for it on fourth down, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cardinals continued to acutely feel their veteran kicker's absence, as Matt Ammendola missed a game-tying 43-yard field-goal attempt last week and followed that key miss up with a missed PAT in the 19-9 loss to the Seahawks. With no confidence in Ammendola, Arizona turned the ball over on downs three times. The Cardinals will hope to have Prater back Thursday against the Saints.
