Tuesday's NHL slate begins at 7:00 PM Eastern time and features 10 games. Below, you'll find an overview of the matchups and suggested options for crafting an effective lineup.
SLATE PREVIEW
There's plenty to choose from here but some teams that stand out offensively are the Coyotes against a struggling Rangers team, the Penguins in Florida, the Jets at home against the Kings and the Oilers in Minnesota. Other teams in favorable situations due to either hot starts of their own or vulnerable opponents include the Sabres, Canucks and Golden Knights.
GOALIES
Whomever the Oilers choose from their timeshare of Mikko Koskinen ($7,700) and Mike Smith ($7,900) should fare well against a Wild team that's averaging 2.25 goals per game — fewest among teams in this slate. Koskinen stopped 25 of 26 shots to beat the Red Wings in his last appearance Friday, while Smith shut out the Jets on Sunday but got no goal support and fell in a shootout.
There are better spots from which to source your offense, but Nashville's Pekka Rinne ($8,400) stands out as a goalie to target at home against Anaheim. Rinne's 4-0-1 with a 2.56 GAA and .913 save percentage, while the defensive-minded Ducks average just 2.56 goals per game.
After watching Oscar Dansk start Monday in Philadelphia, a well-rested Marc-Andre Fleury ($8,000) will look to build on his strong start for the Golden Knights in Chicago. The Blackhawks rank near the middle of the pack with 3.00 goals per game in their 2-3-1 start, while Fleury's a sparkling 6-2-0 with a 2.18 GAA and .934 save percentage after shutting out his ex-mates in Pittsburgh in his last start.
VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS
If you can only pick up one Jets player for this favorable matchup against the Kings, Mark Scheifele ($7,100) is your guy. He's played at a point-per-game pace or better in each of the past three seasons, and the elite center is on track to do so again, as he leads the Jets with four goals and has 12 points through 10 games.
David Pastrnak ($8,000) comes into this home rematch against the Maple Leafs riding a six-game point streak that's featured nine goals and six assists, and he's lit the lamp seven times in his last three games. While this will be Boston's first game since Pastrnak netted a goal and an assist in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss in Toronto, the Maple Leafs will have tired legs after hosting Columbus on Monday.
The offseason acquisition of J.T. Miller ($6,000) has paid off for the Canucks through eight games, as he leads the team with four goals and is tied for the team lead with eight points. He should continue to produce in a road clash with a Red Wings team that's been outscored 28-19 through eight games.
The Rangers have been shuffling their lines in search of answers amid a four-game losing streak, and it looks like Jesper Fast ($3,700) will now get a chance to skate on the top line with elite forwards Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin when the Coyotes come to town. Fast was moved up to that role during Sunday's loss to Vancouver and finished with a goal and an assist in that game, matching the offensive output from his first five games. The affordable Swedish winger goes to the dirty areas and scored 33 points over 71 games in 2017-18.
FORWARD LINE STACKS
Oilers at Wild
Connor McDavid (C - $8,200), Leon Draisaitl (W - $7,900), Zack Kassian (W - $4,500)
The Oilers failed to score a goal in their last game, but they get an ideal opportunity to bounce back against a Wild team that's tied with the Kings for most goals allowed per game at 4.00. McDavid and Draisaitl need no introduction. With 5-12-17 and 6-10-16 lines, respectively, through nine games, they're on pace for a combined 301 points after totaling 221 last season. Kassian provides some nice monetary relief and has held his own with three goals and three assists.
Penguins at Panthers
Sidney Crosby (C - $7,700), Jake Guentzel (W - $6,800), Dominik Simon (W - $3,500)
This line is like Oilers top line lite. Crosby's a transcendent center in his own right, and No. 87 can give you about 87 percent of McDavid's production. Draisaitl was one of two players to pot 50 goals last season, while Guentzel was one of 13 to score 40. Like Kassian, Simon comes cheap and rides his linemates' coattails. Crosby has a 4-8-12 line through nine games, Guentzel's at 5-3-8 and Simon has points in three of his last four. Meanwhile, the offseason acquisition of star netminder Sergei Bobrovsky hasn't gone as planned for the Panthers, as Bob has a 4.07 GAA and .872 save percentage through six starts.
Coyotes at Rangers
Derek Stepan (C - $5,000), Phil Kessel (W - $5,500), Clayton Keller (W - $4,700)
Arizona's offense is officially rolling with 14 goals in the last three games, while the Rangers have dropped four straight after winning their first two and rank among the league's five most generous teams with 3.67 goals allowed per game. Stepan should have a little extra motivation against his former team and is on pace to finish over an 0.5 point-per-game pace for the ninth time in 10 seasons. Kessel has 178 points in 171 games since the start of the 2017-18 season, and Keller has already dished six assists through seven games this season.
DEFENSEMEN
Rasmus Dahlin ($5,500) keeps winding up in this section, but it's hard not to keep recommending the 19-year-old considering he's playing like an elite defenseman but isn't priced like one. He's producing at a point-per-game pace through nine, including six points on the power play, heading into a home meeting with a Sharks team that's allowing 3.50 goals per game.
Josh Morrissey ($4,900) has missed two games this season, but Winnipeg's No. 1 blueliner has six points in his eight games played. He offers great bang for the buck against the lowly Kings.
Quinn Hughes ($3,300) has a respectable four points through eight games, but the seventh overall selection from the 2018 draft is capable of more, and he's certainly capable of continuing to outperform his $3,300 valuation. Half of Hughes' production has come with the extra man, and his offensive skills should shine through against the Red Wings.
If you have enough money left over to lock him in, Kris Letang ($6,500) is an appealing complementary option to Pittsburgh's top line in Florida. He has a 4-6-10 line and 34 shots through nine games.
