ANALYSIS
Cagnoni signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Sharks in May but was unable to earn a spot on the team's Opening Night roster. The blueliner recorded 90 points over 65 regular-season appearances for WHL Portland last year and will attempt to carve out a role in the AHL early in the 2024-25 campaign. If his WHL success translates to his time with the Barracuda, he could return to the NHL at some point this season if the Sharks need additional depth.

Cagnoni is expected to forego his overage season in the WHL and turn pro ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports Monday.
ANALYSIS
Cagnoni will likely begin his professional career in the AHL -- the left-shot defenseman is only 19 years of age. The Burnaby native was a fourth-round selection by San Jose in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. The young blueliner was highly productive during his time in the WHL -- he banked 90 points and a plus-47 rating in 65 regular-season contests. Cagnoni's offensive instincts from the backend will make him an intriguing prospect to follow as he continues to develop his game in 2024-25.
