Mason Marchment

Mason Marchment

29-Year-Old Left WingLW
Dallas Stars
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Marchment's production will likely never reach elite levels, but it's more than enough to keep him in a middle-six role for the Stars. He had a career year in 2023-24, racking up 22 goals, 53 points, 150 shots on net and 81 regular-season games played, all of which were career highs. The 29-year-old meshed with Matt Duchene and Tyler Seguin on the second line, especially early in the campaign, though that magic combination faded late -- Marchment had just seven points over the last 27 contests. At his best, Marchment looks like a 20-goal, 50-to-55-point option who can add 100-plus hits and 50-plus PIM. He'll also see some power-play time with the second unit, giving him a safe floor in a variety of fantasy formats. Read Past Outlooks

Nets lone goal in loss
LWDallas Stars
June 2, 2024
Marchment scored a goal on two shots and added five hits in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Oilers in Game 6.
ANALYSIS
Marchment batted home a pass from Tyler Seguin while crashing the net in the third period. That goal briefly gave the Stars hope for a comeback, but a tying goal never materialized. Marchment had three goals and two assists over 13 playoff outings, though it's unclear if he had any lingering effects from an undisclosed injury he suffered in the first round. The 28-year-old winger has two years left on his current contract, so it's expected he'll around to provide grit and depth scoring in a middle-six role for the Stars in 2024-25.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
What started out promising quickly soured for Marchment in his first year with the Stars. A 32-game goal drought spanning the bulk of the middle of the 2022-23 season didn't help his cause, and he ended the year with 12 tallies and 31 points in 68 contests. Marchment will likely continue to see middle-six minutes, but further struggles on offense could see his power-play time drop, especially if the Stars' younger forwards make a push. The one guarantee from Marchment is physicality -- he'll pile up PIM and should be a steady source of hits. He's a good bet to settle around the 11-percent mark for shooting, and staying healthy could see him emerge as a 20-goal threat this year, but there's not much reason to take him as anything more than a depth option in fantasy.
It took Marchment a little while to establish himself as a full-time NHL player, but he arrived on the scene a season ago in an emphatic way. He ended up playing in 54 games for the Panthers, finishing with 18 goals and 47 points. The production was particularly impressive considering Marchment saw virtually no time (0:52 per game) with the man advantage. Marchment's breakout came at just the right time. He was eligible for unrestricted free agency this past summer and was linked to Carolina before ultimately ending up in Dallas on a four-year, $18 million deal. The contract will look like a bargain if Marchment continues progressing and there's no real reason he shouldn't given the fact he will play this entire season at age 27.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely to remain in lineup
LWDallas Stars
November 8, 2023
Saad Yousuf of The Athletic doesn't believe Marchment will spend time as a healthy scratch, even if he takes some bad penalties.
ANALYSIS
Marchment has already accumulated 26 PIM through 11 contests to go with two goals, four points and 10 hits. Part of the reason why Marchment is likely to stay in the lineup is the Stars' injury situation -- Matt Duchene and Radek Faksa are both day-to-day with upper-body issues -- and their cap situation makes it impractical to call up an alternative from the AHL at this time. Marchment's contract, a four-year, $18 million deal that runs through 2025-26, might also work in his favor. While it's easy to say he's getting overpaid for what he's bringing to the table, Yousuf believes the Stars will be reluctant to bench such an expensive player for any significant stretch of time even in a scenario where there's arguably a slightly better alternative serving as a healthy scratch.
