2024 Fantasy Outlook
Broberg has been a long-term project for the Oilers ever since the team took him eighth overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. Things appeared to be trending in the right direction following the 2022-23 campaign, but the young blueliner saw action in just 12 NHL contests last year. Along the way, the Swede didn't offer much from a fantasy perspective, registering a mere two assists, four hits and six shots while averaging 11:37 of ice time. Still, the Blues were impressed enough with Broberg to sign him to an offer sheet that went unmatched by Edmonton. With his new club, Broberg should be in the mix for more regular appearances -- though he will have to compete with the likes of Scott Perunovich and Pierre-Olivier Joseph for minutes coming out of training camp. Offer sheet not matched

August 20, 2024
Broberg officially signed a two-year, $9.16 million contract with St. Louis after Edmonton didn't match the offer Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Broberg played in just 12 regular-season NHL games for the Oilers last season, registering two assists, four hits and six shots in 11:37 of ice time per game. With his new team, the blueliner should have the opportunity to compete for regular minutes, though he will face tough competition from the likes of Scott Perunovich and Pierre-Olivier Joseph -- not to mention veteran Ryan Suter.

2020
Broberg found himself caught between leagues for much of 2022-23, tallying eight points in 46 NHL games and four points in seven contests with AHL Bakersfield. Barring an injury on the Oilers' blue line in training camp, the 22-year-old defenseman is on the outside looking in for a consistent role heading into 2023-24. A first-round pick from 2019, Broberg may still need a little time in the AHL, but he should be pushing for a full-time NHL gig. The Oilers had a propensity to go with seven-defensemen lineups last year, so that may be his best path to playing time..
Broberg, the No. 8 overall pick in 2019, finally made his NHL debut in 2021-22. He got into 23 games with the Oilers, managing a goal and a pair of assists. Broberg is a solid prospect. He's a high-end skater with at least average offensive abilities, but his decision making with the puck is questionable at times and his physical game is lacking. He should be a regular for the Oilers in 2022-23, but veterans such as Ryan Murray and Slater Koekkoek will be lurking should Broberg get off to a slow start.
Broberg didn't see any action in the NHL in 2019-20 despite making the Oilers' roster for the playoffs. With Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League, Broberg put up eight points in 45 games last season, his first in Sweden's top league. The eighth overall pick from 2019 is expected to make the jump to North American hockey in 2020-21, but he'll likely need some time to develop in the minors with AHL Bakersfield. Fantasy managers in dynasty formats will want to keep an eye on the 19-year-old blueliner, but he hasn't shown a lot of offense at any level yet, so proceed with caution.

Set to join Blues
DEdmonton Oilers
August 20, 2024
Broberg, who signed an offer sheet with St. Louis, is expected to officially become a member of the Blues on Tuesday with Edmonton deciding not to match the offer, Ryan Rishaug of TSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Broberg's spot in the lineup will likely go to Ty Emberson, who was acquired by the Oilers from the Sharks as part of a cap-saving deal that saw Cody Ceci going the other way. For his part, Broberg is far from a lock for the lineup on a nightly basis in St. Louis -- though Torey Krug's ankle injury could create an opening in the lineup.
