The NTT IndyCar Series hasn't raced at the Milwaukee Mile since 2015, but a recent trend of oval racing in the series continued Friday during the opening practice for the Hy-Vee Milwaukee Mile 250s. Two-time series champion Newgarden led at 158.762 mph in the No. 2 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet on the 1.015-mile oval.

ANALYSIS
IndyCar held an extended practice this weekend due to the size of the oval and the racing doubleheader at Milwaukee. Newgarden continued his excellence on the ovals with his fast laps at the Milwaukee Mile. He beat out Scott Dixon by a tenth of a second to lead the session. Newgarden looks like the driver to beat both Saturday and Sunday at Milwaukee.
