Tuesday's featured MLB slate begins at 7:05 p.m. EDT and includes 11 games. This slate lacks premier pitching options, so look for most lineups to spend big on sluggers while finding value on the mound. Below, you'll find recommended pitchers and hitters to target, as well as some value plays and stacking options.
Pitchers
Brady Singer ($6,900) will likely be this slate's most popular pitching choice. The 24-year-old Royals righty has been a dominant force since helping lead the Florida Gators to the College World Series title as a freshman in 2016, and he has made major-league hitters look like college freshmen in his last two starts. Those past two outings have included 14 scoreless innings in which Singer has allowed just three hits to go with a 16:3 K:BB. The 24th-ranked Cardinals offense (4.20 runs per game) will have a hard time breaking Singer's momentum.
Zach Davies ($9,900) is this slate's priciest pitcher, and he's also the safest. He has a 2.69 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 55:16 K:BB in 60.1 innings, and Davies' Padres will be heavily favored at home against a visiting Angels team that's averaging only 3.96 runs per game on the road — sixth-fewest in the league.
Blake Snell ($9,500) isn't giving the Rays much length, but the 2018 AL Cy Young Award winner has allowed just one run on seven hits in his last two starts while posting a 9:3 K:BB over 10.2 innings. The southpaw will look to keep rolling against a lefty-laden Mets lineup.
If you're looking for a high-risk, high-reward option who won't burn a hole in your wallet, Orioles lefty Keegan Akin ($6,300) fits the bill. He hasn't allowed an earned run in three of his past four starts, allowing just nine hits to go with a 23:7 K:BB over 14.2 innings in those three outings. Problem is, he failed to make it out of the first inning in the other game over that stretch while giving up four runs to the Yankees. The Red Sox can't hold a candle to the Yankees, however, so there's plenty of upside here against a Boston offense that's one of eight averaging over a strikeout per inning.
Top Targets
Left-handed hitters have a .447 wOBA against Oakland righty Frankie Montas, and with Cody Bellinger ($5,600) having a down year, Corey Seager ($5,500) is the most dangerous left-handed batter in the Dodgers' lineup. The shortstop has a .415 wOBA against righties this season, which climbs to .521 at home.
Padres third baseman Manny Machado ($5,700) has a .498 wOBA in righty-on-righty matchups at home. He'll face Angels righty Griffin Canning, who is allowing a .364 wOBA to batters from the right side.
Diamondbacks outfielder Kole Calhoun ($4,500) has a .398 wOBA against righties and gets a favorable matchup at home against Rangers starter Jordan Lyles, who has a 7.07 ERA in 49.2 innings.
Best Values
Donovan Solano ($3,900) is slashing .341/.383/.494 for the Giants, and he'll have the platoon advantage at home against Rockies southpaw Kyle Freeland. The second baseman bats in the top third of San Francisco's order, making him an appealing value option at just $3,900.
If you're looking to pinch pennies at first base, Josh Fuentes ($2,900) is your man. He's slashing .352/.360/.507 for the Rockies and showing no signs of slowing down, with eight hits, six runs and seven RBI in his last four games. Fuentes will have the platoon advantage against Giants lefty Drew Smyly.
This is a nice buy-low opportunity on Royals slugger Jorge Soler ($2,500), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday and promptly smacked a double. Soler launched 48 long balls in 2019 and has eight home runs in 40 games this season heading into a home matchup against Cardinals opener Austin Gomber and the St. Louis bullpen.
Stacks to Consider
Braves vs. Marlins RHP Jose Urena
Freddie Freeman (1B - $5,400), Travis d'Arnaud (C - $4,800), Dansby Swanson (SS - $5,200)
Atlanta has a 34-13 edge in runs in the last two meetings between these teams, and the high-powered Braves offense should keep rolling against Jose Urena, who has a 6.00 ERA and 5.79 FIP in 15 innings this season. The left-handed hitting Freeman has a robust .500 wOBA against right-handed pitching. D'Arnaud's as good as it gets in the catcher spot given his .456 wOBA in righty-on-righty matchups and .336/.396/.559 line overall. Swanson's a solid alternative if you can't afford Ronald Acuna ($6,000) or have already filled up your outfield, as the shortstop's .362 wOBA against righties climbs to .422 at home.
Twins vs. Tigers LHP Tarik Skubal
Jorge Polanco (SS - $3,900), Mitch Garver (C - $4,300), Miguel Sano (1B - $4,500)
Locked in a battle with the Yankees for home-field advantage in the first round while also trying to chase down the White Sox for the division lead to create an altogether easier first-round matchup, the Twins should pile on against Skubal, who has been tagged for a .368 wOBA by right-handed batters. The rookie southpaw's wOBA allowed in that split climbs to .413 on the road, where he has an 8.76 ERA in 12.1 innings. The switch-hitting Polanco has been significantly better from the right side this season, with a .351 wOBA against lefties compared to a .277 mark against righties. Garver has been a black hole in righty-on-righty matchups in a 2020 campaign that's been derailed by injuries, but he's a passable 5-for-20 with three walks in a small sample against lefties, and the catcher had a .468 wOBA when facing left-handed pitching in 2019, making him an enticing against-the-grain option. Sano has been a feast-or-famine option with a .212 average but 13 home runs, but he has been much better overall at home (.379 wOBA) than on the road (.296). If Nelson Cruz ($5,400) is ready to return from his sore right knee, his .584 wOBA against left-handed pitchers would make him an appealing option.
Astros at Mariners RHP Ljay Newsome
George Springer (OF - $4,700), Michael Brantley (OF - $3,800), Kyle Tucker (OF - $4,200)
With Monday's loss in Seattle, Houston's lead over the Mariners for a playoff spot fell to three games with six to play. A win in this game would give the Astros some much-needed breathing room, and they have a golden opportunity to pick one up against Newsome, who has a 6.35 ERA and 6.63 FIP in 11.1 innings over four appearances (three starts). Springer is Houston's hottest hitter, as the leadoff man has hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games while launching six home runs in his last 10 contests. The left-handed hitting Brantley has capitalized on his platoon advantage with a .402 wOBA against righties this season, while Tucker also has the platoon advantage against Newsome and owns a .368 wOBA against righties.
