Closer Watch – A closer look at intriguing ninth-inning situations (also check out our Closer Grid)

There wasn't a lot of closing news from Friday's start of interleague play this week, but there was an interesting trend in the box scores. Only four visiting teams, of the 14 interleague games, were able to win on the road in the opposing-league park, playing under the opposing-league rules. Six games were played in American League parks, and eight games were played in National League parks. All four of the traveling teams that won their away game Friday were American League teams playing in National League parks.

Toronto – Frank Francisco earned his seventh save of the season Friday, picking up his second save in three days. The last two Blue Jays pitchers to record saves before Francisco were Casey Janssen and Jon Rauch, but their work was done over a week ago. It's becoming maddeningly fluid this season, but Francisco appears to be the guy to own for the moment. We say this knowing that Jon Rauch, Octavio Dotel, or some fan in the left field stands could be used going forward.

Recommended Pickup

Brandon Beachy, SP, ATL – Beachy (oblique) is nearing a return from the DL, and he could be called up before the middle of the coming week to take Tommy Hanson's (shoulder) spot in the rotation. In Beachy's first rehab start at Triple-A on Thursday, the rookie pitched five innings of one-run ball and struck out eight batters in the process. Before going on the DL, Beachy was enjoying a great start, posting a 3.45 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 46:12 K:BB ratio through 44.3 innings. He's currently owned in only 24 percent of Yahoo! leagues, so make sure he isn't still sitting in your free agent pool.

Other recent recommendations:Jonathon Niese, Dustin Ackley, Charlie Blackmon, Scott Baker, Lucas Duda
